They have a surplus and we have a surplus. To me, we seem like great trading partners.
But why would they move their best defensemen? Are the Flyers going to move Giroux?

They'd trade Yandle, Rundblad, and Gormley before they think about moving OEL

Probably a 2nd and a mid-prospect.

I'm thinking just a 2nd. Plays well on the pk but doesnt have that much offensive ability. I dont think they will move him though. If a team asked about Feds though, I'd give up a mid round pick for him.

No and that's a good point. However, I don't think OEL's at a point now where he can be seriously considered as a centerpiece for Giroux or if he was Phoenix doesn't have the ++ it would take to land G.

I may be wrong, but it's just my opinion.

The chances of Phoenix moving OEL at this point are about 1% chance of happening. Once people realize this the better off we will be instead of worrying about what he'll cost. It's a pipe dream at best.

We could definitely get Vancouver to overpay for Talbot

For us to acquire a #1 d it is going to take something close to what we traded for pronger. But they most likely wont be available. Too bad we can't give him a weber contract because that would be pretty tough for Phoenix to match, even more so than Nashville I would think

Phoenix is the most likely partner for us to nab a young Dman from. So if OEL is off the table, who could we get? IMO, Rundblad isn't the answer nor is Yandle.

What would it cost us for Gormley? Coots straight up or a little +?

Your right that OEL won't get Giroux but the point is that just cause a team has a decent backup option like Phoenix has Yandle and OEL and St Louis has Shattenkirk and Piertangelo does mean that team is going to trade the better player. Yandle and Shattenkirk would be more likely to be traded than OEL and Piertangelo.

Phoenix would need to add to Gormley for Couturier. Gormley hasn't played a minute in the NHL yet.

Chicago is another team. I think the streak puts more pressure on them to win the cup.

I have no interest in trading Talbot. Also I would be surprised if someone paid that much for him. I suppose if someone offered a first rounder for him I would do it, but I just don't see it happening. The return he would bring in reality likely would not be worth it IMO.

Gormley isn't projected to be a number 1 dman. If the Flyers wouldn't part with Couturier for Weber I highly doubt they would for an unproven guy that doesn't even project to be a number 1 guy.

Understood but could Yandle or Shattenkirk actually get their teams what they need in a trade? Although, admittedly, St. Louis isn't in need of anything major.

I look at Phoenix and they have no organizational depth on the wings or at center and, outside of Boedker and maybe Hanzal, no potential first line talent there either.

I would see if something around Laughton for Gormley could be arranged. I would not trade our 1st this year for anything short of a #1 d-man or a young d-man with the potential to become one and that is not going to happen.

That was sort of my thought as well, Laughton + for either Gormley or Rundblad.

TFP just put out a list of the Top 25 players who are being mentioned in trades. They have the Flyers in on Perry, Luongo, Iginla, Yandle, J-bo, and Regehr. I'd be surprised if they got any of them. Only really have interest in Yandle, J-bo, and Perry (though Perry I have interest in as UFA, not trade).

I have zero interest interest in acquiring Bouwmeester, Iginla, Perry ect ect.
That is not the direction we should be going in this season IMO.

Linking the Flyers with Luongo deals a major hit to their insiders' credibility. "You can never count out the Flyers" is such a generalization and example of writer laziness. Yandle would definitely be an interesting discussion. I'm with GFH for the rest.

Odd that Brière didn't even get an honourable mention.

Other than that, looking at those photos, you'd think that professional athletes making millions of dollars a year could go to a decent barber.
– Perry looks like he got pulled out of Grade 5 Phys Ed for his pic.
– I left the screen on Regehr too long and have a burn mark on my soul.
– Whitney isn't fooling anyone with the Spray-On hair.
– How does Gonchar find a helmet big enough for that encephalitic noggin of his?
– It was nice of the layout guy to cut off Khabibulin's mug shot just above the number. Seriously, comb? Razor?

I like J-bo. I think he would be good addition moving forward. He is definitely overpaid, but only for another year. He's only 30. I know everyone on here doesn't want to add someone that is 30 or over, but I don't see a problem with it. Sign him to a more reasonable contract for after next season. The team should be able to deal with the hit next year and still make the moves they want to make (save for maybe Perry).

Eklund just posted:

On Byfuglien...

The Flyers are definitely interested in Dustin, but so are the Red Wings, the Leafs, the Canes and the Canadiens... Dustin has a huge amount of upside and there is no denying the risk...but this is the kind of trade Winnipeg should make...in my opinion...while the market is so high...
