Even if Bryz was consistently good, no team can deal with that contract unless they're getting season after season of Vezina winner/finalist performances.

The length, yes. The cap hit I don't think is too bad. Always better to be lower, but even if he wasn't a Vezina finalist every year, but was still, let's say in the top half, the cap hit wouldn't be an issue. Also, as I have stated before and started multi-page aruments, if he gets you a Cup it was all worth it.

I don't think 5.5 mil a season is an egregious cap hit for a good goaltender. I wish Bryz was consistently playing like one.

It's certainly livable if the goalie isn't pulling a Jekyll and Hyde all season long. The length is bad no matter what the production is now. Giving a 9 year deal to 30 year old goalie is just dumb though.

I agree with this. Bryz has been either good or bad, mostly bad. That is unacceptable for someone supposed to be an elite goalie and has that kind of contract regardless of defensive breakdowns. Meltzer put it best in his blog yesterday. That said however, I would never give a goalie more than a 3-4 year contract let alone a 30-year old goalie a 9 year one.

I don't think it's even worth it for top-half performance. Top 10 is more like it.

I'd be ok with it if he is top half. I wouldn't be excited about it but I wouldn't complain. I am really wavering on whether or not I want him to be bought out at this point.

Consistent: adj: marked by harmony, regularity, or steady continuity : free from variation or contradiction <a consistent style in painting>

Hint: Bryz's picture is not found here in Merriam-Webster.

Let me guess: it went in, but BP 1974 said it was a difficult shot because of the defensive breakdown.

Don't sell yourself short, it would appear your wits and punctuation haven't left you entirely yet either.

You're too kind. I'm also a huge fan of the ellipsis.

They better wake the hell up..that Buffalo game was meh...they played mediocre and won. Good luck playing the upper echelon teams with that kind of play. Granted the Devils have been playing bad but they are still the Devils.

I think it's safe to say Bryz will not finish his contract as a Flyer.

I thought he looked completely done by the end of the game. He was fighting the puck and had no confidence.

Which means he performed like just about everyone else, I guess.

If it holds steady where it is now, it'll be the worst since 1994-95.

Not trolling (Please dont take it that way)

But Bryzgalov is following path of most recent big FA goalie bust ,, Cristobal Huet

Huet year #1 with Hawks = 20-15-4 with 2.53 GAA and .909 Sv Pct
Bryzgalov year #1 with Flyers = 33-16-7 with 2.48 GAA and .909 Sv Pct

Huet year #2 with Hawks = 26-14-4 with 2.50 GAA and .895 Sv Pct
Bryzgalov year #2 with Flyers = 12-12-1 with 2.86 GAA and .896 Sv Pct

Huet buried for years #3/4
Bryz years #3 and beyond = Possible buyout?

Very similiar paths

I've used the Huet comparison for cap hit attached to an underperforming goalie before. Apparently that was more apt than I thought. Ugh.

I think Bryz's save percent will go down even more. Every time an opposing player shoots, I feel like the puck goes into the net. Feels like last year again, only this time the Flyers can't outscore Bryz.
