That should give Klefbom more time to develop as well. He is less than perfect, but to let him walk/trade him away and count on Potter to be in the lineup every game would be brutal.
I rather move Whitney so they are forced to fix the issue. The biggest issue on that back end this year outside of playing a rookie 22-25 minutes a night for a good chunk of the year was that they had no backup plan for Whitney. We all knew that Whitney could be a top 4 if healthy, the problem was him being healthy. Are we going to go through the same thing again next year for 20 games? Struggle and hope Whitney comes around?

I'm all for keeping Whitney, but you keep him as a bottom pairing d-man and if he plays like a top 4 you have yourself a bonus. Not pay him like a top 4, expect top 4 play and then he plays 40% of the year like a #9 d-man.

Considering Blackhawks fans have been saying his brain shuts off once he crosses the blueline for years, it's not "taking a shot".

Yet somehow the guy managers 40 points a year, PPG in WC just under PPG at the Olympics.

We have players who's brains shut off once they tie their skates.

Man, imagine what kind of numbers he'd put up if his brain didn't shut off post-blueline.

clearly all his points are from making breakout passes, you dont put up those kind of points when your brain shuts off imo

If we can upgrade on Ryan jones on the RNH, Eberle line we would have three really dynamic lines. Whose a big left winger who can score that can be had?

Yeah I think the issue with Gardiner is what it will cost to get him. I would assume it's way more than we'd want to give up.

I don't see why the Leafs would trade him in the first place.

Tough news for Bruins as Chris Kelly is out indefinitely with a broken left tibia. Expect a call-up soon but quite possibly a trade?

Okay so I'll play along that he goes Ben Stiller in Jack once he gets pass the blueline, but given our speed and skill is a guy that can only make breakout passes not someone we could use?

Ouch, that's tough. I didn't think he got hurt that bad. Maybe they want a veteran or 2 for the bottom-6

To BOS: Belanger and Smyth

To EDM: Campbell and Caron

I don't think they move Campbell, although I could see them looking at Belanger, Smyth, Jones or even a Petrell.

They more than likely are looking for the cheap pickup that only costs a 4th or lower end prospect.

Caron and Chris Bourque instead perhaps?

What happened to Gaustad? I see he's flying back to NSH to see doctors. Although I don't know that NSH really looks for help, last year it was more about convincing Suter and Weber to stick around.

I like . . . Gardiner to the Oilers

I read a post that proposed Gardiner to the Oilers for the 1rdp.

I like the idea. The Oilers need players that can play in the NHL now and Gardiner and J. Schultz together would look a great pair.

If the Oilers keep playing good they probably won't be drafting in the top 5 and maybe not even in the top 10. So why not take a chance and get a proven top 4 NHL ready D.

I am in for the trade.

I'm predicting Belanger to be traded on deadline day. He'll be a target for a lot of teams looking for a 3rd line center that can win faceoffs. I don't see him going to Boston because of the extra year on his deal but a team like Chicago or Nashville wouldn't surprise me.

My out of the box proposal:

To WSH: Eberle
To EDM: Ovechkin

Gets us size in top 6 allowing us to keep Gagner around long term.. Gives WSH a solid return..

Ovy-RNH-Yak
Hall-Gagner-Paajarvi
Jones-Horc-Hemsky

I want to see some actual inspiration from Ovechkin before I put support in wanting to deal for him. Last thing we need is for Ovechkin's laziness to give an example to Yakupov.

I remember when Ovechkin was so passionate and was awesome every night.

I'm going to give Jones the benefit of a few more games on that line, but I sure hope he plays better than he did last night. He did not look like a good fit whatsoever there last night. Not sure if Harti would look any better either. With the talent that RNH and Eberle have, I don't think we need a finesse big guy on the line. Just someone who will go hard on the forecheck, retrieve the puck once in a while, and stand in front of the net. Jones should (hopefully) be able to play that role. I also wonder how Brown would look there. He'd stand-up for the two of them and work the forecheck fairly effectively.

Florida are supposedly sellers.

Kopecky would look good on that line.

Fine by me, I'm a little tired of him seeming to go through the motions here.

I was thinking him and Matthias.

Matthias' offense hasn't really shown up, but he's big and can skate, he might make a nice player to develop in the bottom-6 who can play up the line up in a pinch.

Plus Kopecky, Florida not withstanding, comes from a couple organizations that know how to win, Det and Chi.
