OT: Outgames

So what do you guys think?

A former NHL'er is apparently playing in one of the gay hockey teams, Martina Navratilova is a spokes person, Mark Tewksbury is another and also participating (if i heard correctly).

Mostly, what i hear is that it`s a huge party, lots of sports, and lots of revenue for Montreal.

comments?

I don't see why gay athletes need their own games, but whatever. I'm indifferent towards it. If it brings revenue to the city, that's nice. Hopefully the money goes towards fixing the roads.

Hahahahahah!!

My boss asked what it was all about, and a co-worker said "I think it's just like the Olympics, but for gay people." I said "yep. gotta love that diving. it sure is gay" to which my boss replied "muff diving?"

I love my job. But I'll only be there for two more weeks

HAHA

actually, i don`t mind the gay games. I think any occasion to party, play sports and celebrate is cool. It`s obvious that too many sports are still way stuckup on homosexuality (including our beloved hockey), but they shouldn`t be. It`s obvious there are many gay players in the NHL, MLB, NFL and NBA, but most of them would never come out by fear.

I think that`s one of the main reason there are gay games. Mostly to let people play sports they love to play without fear of being who they are.

I must admit that i watched the opening ceremonies tonight (so far) and it`s not that bad. I might watch some of the other stuff.

People who are hetero can also participate if they want. It's not just for the gay.

What I was wondering is. If I was to go watch an event would people automaticaly conclude I was gay? Like...if I called my friends and said lets go hang out at the out games....I cant imagine man. Then you watch the news and you see your self in the crowd and your parents call you 5 minutes later.

I think the games are just an excuse to talk about the gay (with the conference and all) and celebrate difference and acceptance. It's not a real competition like the Olympic or the Commonwealth Games. It's why everybody can participate if they want.

Althought I think they can do whatever they want, I too think it's useless... in fact, they want to be freed from criticism, hatred and in fact want to be treated like anybody else, but they seclude themselves from the hetero with those kind of events, they just build their own ghettos.

Oh yeah, speaking of useless, the 'Chambre des commerces gais et lesbiennes' will soon open it's doors in Montreal, I think...

As a gaming event, it is practically useless.

To raise awareness, which I think is it's bigger goal, it is extremely useful. Considering they are probably the most discrimated against group in North America at the time being, they still need it.

Call me old fashioned but I think it's just stupid. I don't have anything against gay poeple. But I don't like it when flaunt their gayness in my face with their parades and their outgames. But hey you know what I just change the channel and I don't watch it. So come to think of it it doesn't bother me at all.

I don't have anything against the gays, but I just don't understand why they are proud about it .

I see why this thread was created, because it is a fairly significant event for Montreal. However, I think that by leaving this thread open, we'll expose ourselves to comments that may come back and bite us all. I'm closing this thread for now, and I hope that everybody understands why. Please PM me if you have any concerns, because I'm open to it.
