Some of these proposals should include Jones, Drouin or MacKinnon, because if the Flyers get a top 3 pick, they will take BPA.

If we have a top 5 pick we need to do whatever we need to do to get Jones in a Flyers sweater.

Why would Detroit let Howard go?

Imagine having Jones and Nurse on this team starting next year. Holy **** that would be amazing .

Honestly, for those that have Howard on the list, do you believe that Detroit will let him go for Mrazek to go full time?

Sell the veterans for what you can at the deadline and give the young guys plenty of ice-time/power play time the rest of the year. Have Gustafsson play quality minutes to see what he can do over the course of a couple weeks.

In Free Agency, don't make any panic moves and lock up any one long term unless it makes a lot of sense. I am a huge fan of Perry but don't think he's worth the cap hit when Giroux/Schenn/Couturier/Read need new deals. Next year is a great free agent class so Holmgren can spend then when the team is ready for a deep run. Go after Jimmy Howard or trade for Bernier.

Still very excited about the young core of this team and think they have a great chance at the playoffs next year. They are still a 2-3 years away from competing for a cup but have a better arsenal of talent than most teams around the league.
This.

I doubt it. Their window for another Cup is closing and losing their #1 goalie won't make things any easier.

I would love to see them somehow end up with both Jones and Nurse. If they kept their #1 and traded for #1 overall... Couturier+?

Oh well, a guy can dream can't he?

I would rather use Perry and Horton money on a young PMD. Then draft another with our 1st rd pick. Sign a goalie for 2-3 years and try to develop or trade for a young goalie.

And where are you getting this young PMD?

Anyone putting Jimmy Howard as an option for a goalie you can cross him off the list very soon. He is close to signing a 6/7 year extension for 30-35 million apparently.

Who do we keep and what can we get?

Keepers:
Forwards - Giroux/Voracek/Simmonds/Read/Couturier/Schenn/Rinaldo
Defense-Schenn
Goalie - None...

Ca we get any picks or young players for anybody on the team not named above?

Add Grossmann to the defense. He's been our best d-man this year. Very underrated.

Here are my keepers:

C: Giroux, B. Schenn, Couturier
W: Voracek, Simmonds, Read, Rinaldo
D: L. Schenn, Grossmann
G: ---

Everyone else should be available IMO.

Briere and Coburn should be able to fetch you a 1st each at least IMO.

I am only up for the idea of moving Coburn if we get a big time d prospect + 1st back and probably more. He has struggled, but has 3 more years at 4.5 for a defender who will play in anyone's top 4. Gives you 20 minutes no matter what too. He would command a hell of a lot on the block during the deadline.

I thought Ottawa would be a good fit with him to play with EK when he returns. Ottawa wasn't happy with the idea. Don't really know why either.

the defense needs speed and a good shooter on every pairing, plus the offense needs more snipers, too many passers.

He's not flashy. So to the casual fan they could care less about what else he brings to the table.

What would you guys think of a trade based in some way around Rusty Klesla and David Rundblad for Matt Read and Scott Laughton? I feel like maybe Read's value is probably higher than Klesla's but that Rundblad's is probably a little more than Laughton's, at this point. From what I understand the Flyers need reinforcements on the back end. This trade certainly helps shore up the blueline. However, I'm not sure if the value going to Phoenix is too high, or not. What do you guys think? Hopefully I'm not too terribly off on value.
