Well now, with the flurry of "business" announcements today, of course the League HAD to chime in and give us all an update

#Coyotes ownership update: Bettman said league is working with a # of groups. Hopes one will move forward in near future to get deal done.

Bettman says Thrashers' relocation sparked relocation; wouldn't have happened without it.

Oh, and in other news I wrote relocation twice instead of relocation once and then realignment. A few people pointed it out.

Since many months, league gives its representatives (Freidman, McKenzie, LeBrun Lavoie & co) stuff to eat, in the intent of cooling down as much as possible hockey fans in Qc city.

Curiously, all this comes the same day PKP stepping down Quebecor CEO is announced.

Bettman could have said that yesterday, or tomorrow. No, he is getting out today.

Cooling down operations me thinks.

I have no doubt that Bettman's been working with a number of interested groups.... the only problem is that they're from such exotic locales as Seattle and Quebec City.

I hear they expect this to be resolved in weeks not months.

Sunnicks has a new article in the PBJ. Nothing new of course. Rehash and speculation regarding potential ownership groups. Nothing to see here...keep move'n.

I wonder if Bettman and the NHL might be looking to sweeten the pot in Glendale by slashing the price. Perhaps he hasn't done so for previous ownership hopefuls because he didn't like the cut of their jib. You can't really blame him, with the suitors being IEH, Hulsizer and then Jamison with IEH and a melange of investors that obviously couldn't get along well enough to finish a deal.

Except the NHL went out of their way to help Hulsizer's bonds and hand-picked Jamison to make a move. Maybe when it came down to brass tacks they all underwhelmed, but the fact remains that they had an opportunity to help both men get the deal done, but never budged from their asking price to contribute.

Say what??

1) It was Glendale who came up with the bonds idea for Hulsizer and...

2) Their only hand-picked owner was Jerry Reinsdorf.

3) We really don't know what the asking price is other than speculation.

I'll give you the lack of clarity there.

To be clear, I meant that the NHL seemed to endorse both Hulsizer and Jamison, or at the least publicly sold their bids to whomever they tried to convince. In the case of Hulsizer, when the Goldwater Institute began to put pressure on potential bond buyers, Bettman came out and showed some disdain for GWI's tactics, saying something along the lines of "Let it go." With Jamison, both Bettman and Daly tried to sell him to a then-souring Scruggs and the city council as the guy that would do right by the Coyotes and Glendale. This is not to say either was hand-picked by the NHL, but both received pretty staunch public support from the man at the top of the league, and we all know that when they want to, they can resort to saying nothing with a lot of words. That they put their necks out there on their behalf at least says they gave approval to what they were doing.

Could be, or perhaps because he promised the BOG's it wouldnt cost them dime one. Consider this post from kdb on the Hamilton thread....

(*) Up to the amount necessary to make up the difference between 50% of Club's revenues (excluding playoff revenue) and the cap midpoint for every recipient.... edit: A hypothetical increase in HRR of $60M from a move from Phoenix (the delta between Phoenix and Vancouver in the Forbes #'s) would increase the cap midpoint by $1M and the floor by $850K. The increased HRR would increase the aggregate revenue sharing needs of the recipient teams by $15M, but provide only an increase of $3.93M in revenue sharing funds.
So maybe thats whats evolving, this is the way he's been thinking, the strategy. It didnt/doesnt matter that the price for the franchise just continues to go up, bought & paid for on a LOC, he can easily flip it to wherever elsewhere while artificially maintaining the average franchise values of $200M with a bit of a bump. He'll just have to be careful in the selection of destination, a 'B' type market, smaller, more boutique, one that would be moderately as opposed to wildly successful. So maybe QC scare's him a bit that way. Reason why he didnt pull the trigger last summer, contemporaneously combined with the Lockout, Jamison continuing to provide the requisite cover.... Like shopping for a pair of cammo pants. Impossible to find. Obvious, but not so much. Pretty ding dang clever if you ask me Whileee. And colder than ice itself.

Gotta love this fact:

Quote:
It could also include Chicago investment executive Matthew Hulsizer who tried to buy the Coyotes back in 2011 and then made an unsuccessful bid to buy the St. Louis Blues.

Hulsizer and his wife and fellow investment executive Jennifer Just donated $430 each to new Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers election campaign in November, according to campaign finance records.
