OT - The Expos

Watching baseball on TV right now, and I really miss the Expos. I used to go to at least 10 games a year.

I was at their last home game, and my eyes were watery. It's the only time a sport has ever made me swell up with tears.

I hate the Nationals, by the way.

I'm ashamed to admit that I"m a nats fan.

I love baseball too much, I used to go 15 times a year and I've a Guerrero jersey and two signed cards of him.

Washington or Montreal....I've to follow baseball..

I still follow baseball. I just moved to the Expos' counsins. The Padres. (they came in the league at the same time)

i used to visit Montreal twice a year once to see the Expos and once to see the Habs..I miss going in the summertime.. I'm having such a hard time cheering for the Blue Jays since i've hated them for many years.

I remember I used to always go up to Montreal when the Jays visited, and it was a pretty fun atmosphere for those games. It was awesome cause you could get your $8 bleacher seat and in the second inning grab one of the thousands of empty seats behind the plate.

Bottom line, even when the Expos were baseball's best in 94... they weren't averaging 30,000. Montreal just was never crazy about baseball.

I just looked it up: In 1994, the Expos average crowd was 22,390.

Totally miss the Expos as well. Vlad Guerrero is my favorite player but I'd rather see him in 'Xpos colors.

The thing that really pisses me off is when you have teams like the marlins and devil rays still in baseball. I mean these teams cant draw more than 10 thousand people and yet there still alive.

That's a shame... Pittsburgh and Milwaukee aren't big baseball towns either, but they got a new stadium which saved their team.

Maybe if the expos won more people would have liked them. I remember when they were in the playoffs Olympic Stadium was packed.

Seems like corporate quebec and MLB bailed on the team. I still believe the expos were in the wrong league. I think people would have been more interested in watching the spos face the Jays, Red Sox, and Yankees.

That's most people's story, or seems to be from what I've noticed. They miss it, but didn't do a thing to allow it to stay in Montreal.

First of all, they can draw 10,000. D-Rays average is 17,487. Marlins 12,540.

Difference between these two teams and the Expos, they've also got a TV and radio deal... unlike Les Expos.

I disagree it is not MLB that brang the Expos down it was the lack of support by the Montreal fans. And also to many broken promises by the Expos ownership. The Expos needed a new ballpark and it never materialize.

Yep, when you can't even support the team when they're the best team in baseball - how is that MLB bringing you down?

What montreal should of done is built a small stadiuem a la fenway right by the fleuve st-laurent. Something that can hold urond 30 thousand people no more. Guaranty you that a nice looking ball park downtown would of won the hearts of many people in that city. Theres nothing better than to see a ball game, drinking a beer in a beautiful ball park under the blue sky in a hot summer day.

I sometimes wish that the jays would make a outdore stadieum along ontario lake. Being indoors takes away from the beauty of the game and that was a big reason why people from montreal dident go.

If I had the money I sure as hell would off built that stadieum.

To be realistic even teams who suck that become one of the best need more time to get the big numbers. Look at the Tigers, they aren't averaging what they could be for a good team, but every week now their attendance is getting stronger and stronger. The 94 lockout killed the momentum. Either way, the Facility sucked and just by looking at pictures of it I wouldn't want to spend a summer day in that warehouse.

oh, the Big O really sucked, that's for sure, but I loved it.

I walked extra slowly on my way out of it for their last home game. I just didn't want to leave, knowing I'd never be back.

I think the Olympic Stadium ruined everything. There was no atmosphere, it was ugly, people were scared to go there because it was falling into pieces and it was also in the worst location you could think of. If they a built a decent stadium in downtown or near the fleuve St-Laurent like someone mentioned, the expos would still be here and they would draw a decent amount of fans. But none of this happened and they're gone.

I'm in Miami right now, and basically no one talks about the Marlins here.

It's University of Miami, the Heat (bandwagoners deluxe) and Dolphins, all the time.
