People REALLY got on Gaborik in 2010-2011. It was probably worse than this because Gaborik was the only true 1st line player on that team.

Hell, people got on him last season. And he scored 41 goals. He isn't exactly a fan favorite.

Lateral move.

Nash + ?????????????????????????? for Gaborik, Prust, Anisimov and Dubinsky.

Perfect sense.

Thats 40+ goals and some great "glue guys" youre replacing so you damn well better be getting a return, that PERFORMS here in NY nonetheless. They did.

This is.. not going too well..

While i've never liked Torts system (i've always found dump & chase a very boring style), at least last year it sort of worked because the team was full of grinders. Then they traded away all the grinders...lol.. and still try to play the same system. And there has never been a plan B.

Torts seemingly only plan has been is to throw a players strengths right out the window in order to conform it to a straitjacket system of north/south with focus on defensive responsibilities. Absolute zero flexibility, absolutely zero adaptability, etc.. its..well.. frustrating

And the power play hasnt worked in how many years ? (apart from occasional stellar play once every blue moon).

With the quality of players that we have, it is very strange to me that they havent at least tried something that might play to their strengths.

ah well.. thats my rambling for the day

Translation - We need to start doing exactly what other teams do to us

God, we give up so many goals on screens, deflections, traffic, etc

For 7.5 million we need (somewhat) consistent production, we've never gotten it from Gaborik. Like I said, he's the best Ranger ever at stuffing the stat sheet. 3 of his 8 goals this year came in 1 game, stats can be deceiving.
well i am so ****ing happy that you arent our GM. i guess you remember the incredible consistency that was brandon dubinsky and artem anisimov. those are two of the streakiest players in the nhl and combined do not have the offensive potential of gaborik

We can still be 5th by the end of next week. Not panicking yet. Still worried Torts' comments didn't fuel the fire the team needed and instead backlashed.

********.

This guy was one of our fastest guys, creating chances, firing the puck. Now, we are lucky if he attempts two shots on goal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvsHxPwQrl0The problem is you guys seem to want Gaborik to be not only a guy with a great shot and a great speed but also great defensively, strong on the boards, a good checker, Callahan-type effort, great moves and such so essentially you want him to be like...Mario Lemieux or something.[/QUOTE]

I want him firing from all angles. I want 3-5 shots a game from him. I want him to accelerate when he has the puck on his stick.

Is that too much too ask, or do I have to wait for someone to make an excuse?

Folks,

Get rid of the hostility. We're all Ranger fans, let's act like the comrades we are. Yes the team is struggling, but no need to take it out on each other.

The team is just slumping (hard) and hasn't quite found themselves yet. Gaborik's coming off a major shoulder injury, the team didn't have the usual hard training camp, and it shows in their conditioning. They'll pick it up..

Disagree 100%.

Gaborik was always a floater on this team. Its just more pronounced now because hes not scoring.

When hes scoring, he still floats, but nobody cares.

This is why some of us (most of us?) realize this and dont get mad, while some of you apparently expect him to become Milan Lucic, even 4 years after hes been here playing the exact same way.

Hes never been good along the walls battling. Hes great WITH the puck in tight areas, but not battling for it in corners. He chops sticks. All he does.

Dubinsky had an off year last year. Have you watched Anisimov play this year? The guy has tremendous upside and a bright future. Both players are also better in the defensive zone. They fit Torts' system better.

It amazes me how you can somehow defend Gaborik after how he's played this year. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt too if his play at least a little bit resembled his play from previous years. I'm hopeful he turns hit around, we need him to.

Sooner or later this team is going to have to replace Gaborik.

A good team has to overcome this though. Thats on the players AND the coach. Every team is dealing with the shortened season.

He is disengaged and tentative right now. It's more than his normal floating.

Look the first few weeks i gave them a lot of leeway. However we are 2 months into this shortened season.

Yeah, Gaborik sure was a floater:

Look at that. He even outdeked a goalie on his first goal.

I as everyone knows, have been one of the more optimistic posters the last few years, what exactly is there to be optimistic about right now?

I figured we'd struggle the first 10 games, then pick it up. We didn't. I said maybe we'll be alright when everyone gets back. We won a few in a row but then go back to playing with no passion and stop scoring goals. I said mid-March we'd hit our stride. Where is it?

Kinda dislike those polls, also. Some players played well and it frames the discussions in a very negative and childish way. I understand it's a difficult second loss but seriously, we can do better than 'suck jokes'.

Then what system was it? Seems to me that the 2 forecheckers have been there since Torts has been here. Same small box defense collapsing around the net. They fought along the boards for pucks and cycled down low a lot like this team has done since Torts has been here. They certainly didnt run and gun. I dont remember that. Not with an older Prospal and Drury and a young Dubi, Cally and Anisimov that Torts was still trying to "teach".

That was Boyles first year on the team and Avery was still around. Voros played half the season and our defense was not that puck mover friendly with the exception on maybe Del Zotto who has fallen on the map. We had Rozsival as well who was ok but couldnt hit the net. We acquired Prust halfway through to help with that stingy defense and wear you down offense.

Maybe I have forgotten though. It has been awhile. I should watch some games of that team. It would be interesting.
