Teams scouting at Pens games? List 'em here (3/4: Top CBJ brass takes in Pens/Bolts)
As we close in on the trade deadline, there will be much more attention paid by reporters to which front-office types are in attendance at games. Obviously the presence of Columbus' top two decision-makers plus a senior adviser in Craig Patrick for the Pens' last tilt created a stir around here.
I want to stress that this thread shouldn't focus on Rob Rossi or any reporter in particular. I fully understand there's a lot of disdain for the Trib's Mr. Hipster award winner (for four years running!), but we can all agree that the Jackets had a sizable presence at Monday's game. Kekalainen can laugh it off all he wants, but he's obviously not bringing along his top advisers just to say hi and have a few beers with his ol' buddy Rejean.
If you see a report online about teams scouting the Pens, link to it in this thread and I'll try to keep the title updated with the latest game to keep the board as informed as possible. Thanks!
Late but:
Dennis Bernstein via twitter: Scouts at the Kings-Stars game: Penguins, Flyers, Flames, Predators, Bruins, Red Wings, Blue Jackets, Canadiens, Rangers, Oilers, Capitals, Canucks, Wild and Sharks.
Its been mentioned before but,
Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Sources are saying the Blues are looking for a left handed top-four defenseman that can play with either Alex Pietrangelo or Kevin Shattenkirk. It might have to wait until the summer as it’s not easy to find one.
We could be good trading partners, if they are willing to move stewart.
David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period indicates the Rangers have a scout watching the Penguins and Maple Leafs tonight. Also, Edmonton, Vancouver, LA, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville and Winnipeg were also being represented.

There were rumblings a few years ago of the Rangers offering Orpik a contract when he was a free agent. With Staal out, they might be interested in him or someone else on the Pens.
Gotta be odd to trade with a division rival though.. especially one floating around the area of the standings that could end up as your round 1 opponent.
Can't see Rangers and Toronto dealing either.. being that they are fighting for the same playoff spots right now.
After seeing all those other teams, i think Shero has put someone on the trade block. Most likely Despres.. although i'd be more excited if it were Orpik.
Taking the "next year and beyond" view, there's not even an argument to be made for trading Despres and keeping Orpik. The only argument in Orpik's favor is the "his experience might be more valuable this playoff year" mode of thinking. Nothing about his play or his attitude wins him any points over Despres.

Well, his physicality too. But that's on the wane, and we have TONS of vets on the roster. Eaton, for one. We might miss his more vocal style of leadership at first, but there's tons of guys on this team who have been in the league for years, won some cups, and have their wisdom to share.
Not to rain on the parade but I gotta get my .02 in here. Reading into this stuff is just not worth anybody's time. But hey knock yourself out if you really want to.
I won't name names but I remember a month back people (KIRK) getting all fired up over our scouts' presence at a random Leafs game. KIRK was so sure that something was brewing; maybe it was and fell through, but I doubt it. It's just business as usual stuff, doing due dilligence. I'm sure which games their schedule takes them to has an element of randomness to it. This happens every year and there's never any major clues to be had.

Meh. His vocal style of leadership hasn't exactly brought about any great changes when we're in the midst of one of our patented slumps. Hard to know for sure but even leadership needs a change from time to time. I think from this point his game and his leadership are going to slowly become less effective, if they haven't already started down that path.

Pens scouts were at the last two Dallas games. I'v also read teams are already starting to scout ufa for next year so you cant just assume their scouting players for trades this year.

Certainly to us. Maybe some other team would be willing to pay a premium for it, though.
And anyway, players tune other players out just like they tune coaches out. I really think that Orpik's out the door soon, either this trade deadline or next year.
I'm wouldn't be so anxious to trade Orpik, despite recent form. He's exactly the type of guy who will suddenly pick up his game come playoff time. Plus I think overly soft defense is probably my biggest worry with this team. Don't want to make that issue any worse.
Could something centered around a Morrow-Orpik swap be in store? Both players are leader-type veterans who may benefit from a change of scenery.
I think you're onto something but I believe that Dallas should Add to a Morrow-Orpik Swap given that a player of Orpik's caliber is in much higher demand (and probably what's most in demand during that time of the year). Too bad Fistric is not with Dallas anymore. He'd be the ideal throw-in to balance it out.

The problem is that Orpik isn't providing the physical presence where he is most needed. He's been really soft in front of the net until after the whistle, and it's cost us many times this season.
