Tampa seems to be struggling in several ways, but kudos to the Isles taking advantage of that and tightening up on what is always a lethal duo in St. Louis and Stamkos.

Nothing outstanding, but not many errors or stupid plays along the way.

What I do not like is that when Boulton is in the line-up, Martin is always relegated to the Boulton-Reasoner line. That drives me nuts. Don't know why Aucoin can't just play there, especially considering how well Martin and Cizikas have been together recently.

Nabby was more than solid.

Hope nothing serious has happened to Ullstrom. Agree with Butchie... looks like some kind of groin pull.

On a serious note how the F can the Rangers not be better then this? Nash,Gaborik,Richards,Staal, and Callahan and they still can't win. They are truly a mind boggling team.

Like I said isles had 3 winnable games in TB, FLA, OTT and it all depends which teams come out...1 down 2 to go....if they can win these next 2 games they put themselves in very good position

They should try Martin with Bailey. It seems the past few seasons Bailey always seems to play better with him. I don't get why they don't try Martin on the 2nd or third line, he has enough skill to be the grinder of an offensive line and I think he would open up ice for his linemates

I have no idea how Ottawa is staying alive to be honest but that is one fo the 2 playoff spots the Islanders have to be eyeing if they want to make the playoffs(the Leafs being the other). I think the rangers are to good not to make it and Philly is another team that seems will slip it's way into the playoffs.

Agreed, it should be Pittsburgh. We've played the Habs well this year so we need to put our best foot foward that night ( Nabby ) let the back up play Pitts and get lit up. If we win every game between now and the ( game against Pittsburgh ) I have no problem with getting a beating and putting in Poulin or DP or whoever. Florida ( winnable ) Ottawa ( big game - chasing them ) Montreal ( playing them well ) then Pittsburgh. Next 4 after tomorrow at home.. Ott, mtl,Pitts, Fla then to the road to face struggling capitals. We should realistically be able to go 4-2 in the next 6... Would be big.

Agreed, It does however make me wonder what it takes to win a cup, let alone 4 or 5 straight. I'm saddened i missed the run we had in the 80's.

Good to see the win though pretty unimpressive. Tampa didn't show up except for a few players. If I was a Tampa fan I would be pretty unimpressed. It looks like the team quit on the coach in some respects.

The lines continue to boggle my mind. How guys like Ullstrom and Aucoin played more minutes than Martin is madness. The coach continues to handicap this team.

That said. Nice win. This is a game we usually blow late and lose in ot.

Some quick thoughts on tonight:

+ Nabby looked very sharp. All season long I have been harping on how insane it is to ride a 37 year old with no training camp to death. Nabby is a blessing. Maybe he should get 3 nights off more often... "No Plan B"

+ Josh Bailey, the Bailey / Martin PK unit was reunited briefly and they sparkled. I would much rather see Bailey / Martin on the PK than reasoner. jettison him already

+ Moulson did a lot of little things tonight

- Hamonic, he has been BAD this year. I think we all underestimated the concussion setback

Pretty much agree with all of this, though I don't think Hamonic has been THAT bad, just underwhelming. I think he is playing okay considering the fact that he did have a concussion during the lockout.

in all honesty, i didnt even watch reasoner in the first period. but in the second and third periods, that guy played like he was 21 again.
if he could bring that effort every night, hed be invaluable to this team.

I liked Cizikas before tonight. I now love him after seeing him in person. This guy was everywhere tonight.

Ullstrom looked good, but I missed the play where he was injured.

Moulson/Tavares don't need to say much here.

Nabby, thank you!

Martin looked good too.

Visnovsky, very involved

Even Streit looked good

Reasoner you poor guy, almost had one

Good NY Islander contingent at the Tampa Bay Times Forum! NY Islanders South!!!

How do you miss Hamonic? Imo he was the best player for the Isles tonight, not really close either.

Weren't Howie and Butch talking about how Martin was getting over the flu? I think he showed some timidness (for him) in the 1st and his icetime was reduced.

Kid is such a beast though, blocking that shot on the PK in the 3rd and hustling to stay in the defensive box afterward.

Overall, a very solid effort imo. I thought Tampa really had no threatening chances minus a few flurries in the third. It's nice having a team that works hard every shift and truly wants to win.

Obviously, another must win in Florida coming up. No more opportunities to use excuses when dropping points against teams below you in the standings.

Glad you had a chance to enjoy the game live and even more glad they got us the win!! We seem to suck in Tampa and Vinny usually leads the way, blessing he was out tonight against us.

Happy for Nabby for getting the SO.

On that note...it said in game the isles haven't shut out the lightning in Tampa since 98? I'm guessing that's gotta be regular season, cuz the isles blanked the bolts 3-0 in game 2 of the 2004 east quarter finals in Tampa.

Hopefully they can pound the panthers. That's really a game they have no excuse to lose. Injury riddled, subpar goaltending....if they really wanna make the playoff push, they gotta get it done Saturday night.
