say couturier + voracek/b. schenn + meszaros + 1st ?

People talk about JVR and his 12 goals, but honestly, he wouldn't be putting up those numbers in Philadelphia. JVR needed to get out of Philadelphia, just like Schenn needed to get out of Toronto. This was a win win trade for both players.
I'll tell you why I think it wasn't good.

Schenn has looked like a big ass guy who has some idea of how to play defense, that got paired with Kimmo Timonen. The result has been a decent +/- and a lot of hits. I don't see the special player everyone else sees.

I reject the idea that JVR needed to get out of Philadelphia or that he wouldn't have succeeded here. He already had very productive stretches of play in Philadelphia proceeding that trade, and he was productive right up until his string of injuries last year. So unless you somehow correlate his injury luck with him being in Philadelphia, the evidence isn't on your side when you make that assertion. JVR is picking up right where he left off before the injuries, and no one has ever backed up the assertion that he needed a change of scenery with a shred of evidence that something was holding him back here. It's just revisionist history.

Couturier, Coburn, Cousins 1st NEXT year

Not sure if that would get it done, Cousins is a nice prospect though.

Any two of Voracek, Couturier and Schenn make the deal a no go. If you take one of them and add Simmonds and Coburn, then the pick won't be a 1st.

Schenn, Simmonds, Coburn + 2013 2nd. I don't expect that to be enough for you, but if we give up any more than that it doesn't make much sense for us. If you want it based around Voracek and Coburn, the pick probably goes away completely and Simmonds probably has to become Matt Read. Voracek + Coburn + Read . . . maybe I'd add a 3rd if it was the deal breaker. Again, I don't expect this to get you excited, nor do I present these offers to be the most other Philly fans would give. But this is where I would've been on the deal, were I in Holmgren's position.

Hindsight being 20/20, the Flyers should've hung onto JVR for a little longer then dangled him to the Preds for Weber.

Couturier
JVR
Meszaros
1st 2013

for Weber.

I think that would have been the middle ground, but Nashville fans are well within their rights to demand more.
