One reason plus/minus is flawed is that Subban has only 5 even strength points and is +5 allowing one to argue that he's never been on the ice when a goal was scored against this year without delving into each and every game.

Mind is ****ing blown right here but I don't think this is really the case.. his teammates could be scoring the points. But by the same token it's not like he is necessarily the direct culprit if there is a goal scored against at EVS.

Many teams have 2 "true" top-pairing defensemen.

As for #1 - the closest examples are the Canadiens and the Rangers.

Shattenkirk, Yandle, and Seabrook are definite top-pairing defensemen, but not #1's IMO.

Legitimate #1 d-man is as rare as prototypical power forwards but some how there is an inflation on the terms so now most teams have 1 or 2 of each.

There's 30 teams, so 30 legit #1. A few teams have none, so up to maybe 5 teams can have 2.
