He had 60 points last year, after a bad start he's on pace for about 50 points. This is a good deal right now.

They can use the compliance buyout if they feel he hasn't lived up to expectations after 2 years..

Tough spot for Montreal. I would have liked to have seen him more in playoff games before signing him to a 4 year contract, but if he did play well, you'd be looking at even more money.

It's a fair contract, even good, if he can continue producing. Fans will jump all over it if he slides though.

Fair deal and it's movable if we ever want to trade him.

DD is a lot better than Bozak offensively.

Bozak is good at faceoffs, killing penalties and plays good D but he's not a #1C.

He's a third liner that can play 2nd line if there are injuries.
That seems fair, but the other stay on hockey central, Nick Kypreos was taking about him might be able to get 4.5-5M in July.

I found it pretty crazy

Size at wing is crucial. Good thing Gallagher and Gionta are both 6'5" or else they could never play wing.

Seriously, the size thing is overrated. Desharnais is very good at protecting the puck, cycling, and wins his fair share of battles along the boards against much bigger players.

With a cap of $64 million (and it will only go up after next year) the AVERAGE salary for a cap ceiling team is $2.8 million. Anyone whining about the $3.5 million that Desharnais will make is crazy.

Sure hope so. Not a bad deal for MTL at all.

Nick Kypreos and Doug MacLean are the biggest idiots ever. They have zero insider information.

Last night they were talking of trading Kessel for Luongo and they were DEAD serious.

Goaltending has been as good as it can be for two guys who have combined to play a 100 NHL games. We don't need Luongo, we need Carlyle to realize that Holzer is trash.

He's as bad as Lebda but he gets top pairing minutes

I really find this a win win situation. Habs lock up a player with a lot of talent for 4 years at a reasonable cap hit. He's only 26 years old and has good chemistry with Maxpac.

On the flip side, if ever we need to make a change, his cap hit is only 3.5 million and MB would have no problem trading him to another team for a decent return.

True. He was also insulated between two solid players.

He also looks lost without Pacioretty out there. I think he's a small center that keeps our top 9 extremely small... Between him, Gionta, Gallagher and Plekanec...

He gets pushed around and physically dominated often. We need to get bigger not smaller up front.

Yes he was solid last year... and decent this year. But I think we overpaid for what we got... Almost certainly ensures that either we are staying small up front long term - a mistake IMO - or we are moving Plekanec.

While they are small, they play a different stlye of game than DD, both those guys are rugged, they hit, and drive to the net, DD game is all about play making, and its better suited for centre, where he has the space to create scoring chances.

Gallagher isn't your normal small player though. He BATTLES in front of the net for loose rebounds, drives to the net, tips pucks, he does everything you want players to do in front of the net regardless of size.

He should be the Calder favorite IMO but I doubt he gets it.

For those complaining about the Habs size, Gionta only has one year left on his contract and depending on how he does next year, i'm not sure they'll offer him another contract. that would leave Desharnais and Gallagher as small players. No the end of the world especially considering Gallagher plays like he's 6 foot 2

Seems like a good deal, small skill guys is the direction the league is heading in, if only I was 15 again...

Not sure why ppl think size is an issue for Mtl forwards anymore, they are actually averaged sized.

Where team has a size issue is on D, Mtl has 1 Dmen that is 6'2 or over (Emelin), but it will get bigger soon IMO, starting with Tinordi (6'6) now up with the team.

Nice deal for the Habs. If he produces well the Habs keep him on a sweetheart semi-longterm deal. If they're not happy with him it won't be an immovable contract.

They wouldn't give their best player (besides price) the contract he wanted because he was unproven and then they go and give DD more money. Subban and his agent must hate MB. Haha

As for the DD contract I think it's fair market value maybe a year or 2 too long in length but I like it.

not crazy at all. desharnais is valued properly by the fans of other teams, not fans of his team... go figure

marc must really like what he has in desharnais and that's not a bad thing. over all it's a fair deal, it eats UFA years, solidifies our center depth (seriously, those that are posting that one of our five centers MUST be traded needs to be bent over a desk and tickled by Mister T) AND the deals is still on the good side that it would be easily moved.

it's not the best signing ever, but it's still good enough that you lot should stop *****ing about it

At 3.5 m per it easy to move if it doesn't work for mtl !! It a cheap deal if he continue to put up 60 point ... If DD continue to produce and galchenyuk get the 1 centre spot DD wil be an easy trade and will fetch us something good due to the fact is contract is good .. I like this deal

Awesome deal, 3,5/year for a 60pts/season player is clearly a cheap deal. Dd certainly deserve every penny and more.

Great job MB !!!

1: Actually DD doesn't make money than Subban. This year DD makes 850K, Subban makes 2M+. next year Subban makes 3.75M, and DD makes 3.5M.

2: DD is on his 3rd contract, if you want to compare the contract Subban signed to DD signed contract, DD got 2 years at 850K. This is his 3rd contract eating up 3 UFA years.

He was talking about Bozak.

Kyper and MacLean think Bozak is worth 4.5M lol. I'd pay Perry league max before I pay Bozak anything more than 3M.
