They won't trade him after paying him $27m already.
They've literally already payed a third of his contract by the time he could be traded. They get him for another 13 years for the remaining ~$70m and his caphit helps them greatly to be over the capfloor.

Laughton is nothing special. I would move him to get Jones.

I actually feel for Jones because the expectations that are being heaped upon him are ridiculous. I hope what team drafts him, has the patience to let him come into his own because it's probably going to take 4, maybe 5 seasons for him to really grasp items.

3 (of 5 total!) 2nd round picks used on defensemen over the last 10 years isn't exactly a very comprehensive list.

We need more picks.

patience is not something Flyer management or a good portian of their fanbase has. We draft Jones and he isnt an elite #1 guy in his first year I can just about gaurantee we will have threads like

"I just dont think Jones will be a #1 guy, time to think about trading him"

That is why I wouldn't trade much to move up and grab him. Those assets could be used to acquire a defensemen who has already been thru growing pains and is trending up.

If Jones is there when the Flyers pick, take him. If not, grab one of the other elite players. As many mentioned Drouin and Mackinnon look like sure fire NHL all stars. I think Barkov belongs in that group as well. If you can add an all star at any position, you do it and adjust after.

Typical Flyers Fan: He only had 20 points his rookie season. He needs to go!
Rational Human Being: He played 20 minutes a game as a rookie.
Typical Flyers Fan: ...Which means he has more than enough ice time to score.
Rational Human Being: 20 points isnt bad for a rookie defenseman who led the team in PK time.
Typical Flyers Fan: We wasted a top 5 pick on a special teams specialist.
Rational Human Being: He's 19, leads the team in PK time, 2nd on the team in TOI, is either first or second on the team in blocked shots, hits, takeaways, and is matched up against the other teams best players every game.
Typical Flyers Fan: He doesn't pass the eye test. Trade him.
Rational Human Being:

*The following season Homer trades him at the deadline along with their first round pick for J-Bo to make a playoff push.

I agree. If the Flyers draft him I hope they send him back to juniors. Most of the best dmen in the league (Weber, Suter, Timonen, Keith, etc) spent some time developing at other levels before playing in the NHL.

Also I understand we have to wait till the 19th of July for Weber, which would actually make it better for us trying to deal for him. The first rounder would be 2014 instead of this years which will be top 10.

I agree. Unless we can trade Nashville $27M along with the players and picks, it isn't happening IMO. Weber is a Pred for life now I think.

At first reading this made me laugh.

Then, I thought about it for a bit and it made me sad b/c it is true.
