Stewart >>> Kulemin but the Leafs are a top 10 offense anyway. We need our D to be better.

Stewart has 13 goals in 55 shots (the shots rank 117th in the NHL).

Kessel and JvR are both top 15 in shots.
I've always liked Polak, and he's a right handed dman

and again not sure if Halak would be available now but Leafs should be interested or at least kicking the tires

Why would Halak be available? I think St. Louis now knows Elliot was a one year fluke.

Halak has proven that he's an NHL starting goaltender...he's in a bit of funk lately.

How can they rely on Allen when they don't know what he can do for them under pressure in the playoffs?

If the leafs roll three lines, our 1st line would be what ever line Kessel is on.

Lupul/JvR - Bozak - Kessel

Then the 2nd line will be what ever line Kadri is on.

MacA - Kadri - Frattin

Then the 3rd line would be the remaining top 9 forwards

Lupul/JvR - Grabovski - Kulemin/Stewart

So yes even though Stewart is much more valuable than Kulie overall, he would be on the 3rd line.
Wouldn't they want to put the second strongest RW/LW combo on Kadri's line:

JvR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Stewart ()
Frattin-Grabo-Mcclement/Komarov/Macarthur

That's a nice looking top 9.

Right now I dont think Stewart is worth what everyone thinks he is right now. Right now Gunnerson for Stewart right now makes sense right now. Thats just right now though.

That Backes contract pretty much sets the bar on other players on the team, which has helped us sign our other forwards (Oshie, Perron) to pretty fair deals. It's all going to depend on if Stewart will be willing to fall in line with that pay scale or if he's going to want to use the threat of offersheets as leverage against the blues.

If Army can get him signed in line with our other forwards, I think he does. If Stewart is looking for more than that, then he gets moved. If the return doesn't meet Army's standards then we use him for the playoff run and see what happens in the offseason.

Also, I'm not sure what the cap was when Backes signed his deal but the cap dropping will only help the blues case, as I'm sure next year it will be close to what it was back then. We shall see.
Last summer Stewart took a pay cut to stay in St. Louis, so I don't think he is going to be as difficult to deal with as many expect. I expect him to be looking for the deal Backes got ($4.5m), just a question of whether we can get it more in line with Oshie's ($4.175m).

The same Stewart that sucked all season last year, he's not the model of consistency

I understand it sucks that the Leafs are in their annual choke. You don't have to be this upset though. Maybe they can get it figured out for next year.

There isn't a Blues fan that wants to trade him. It's everyone else trying to get him.

I think just about every Blues fan will be pissed off if we trade Stewart. Stewart is our best forward this season.

Strickland is a horrible hockey writer there is a reason he use to work for a site like HockeyBuzz. I think it's more or less people take Strickland serious when they should not.

He's a great teammate from what I have read/seen the fans love him he's our leading scorer.......

Some Maple Leaf fans seriously underrating Stewart... 3rd liner? Prefer Kulemin over Stewart? Gunnar? Give me a break...

Please take Kulemin. Hes not as bad as his numbers indicate, but him and Grabo just can't get it going this year (or last year).

Stewart is just what this team needs; a physical, gritty scorer in the top six.

Kulemin + Liles or Kulemin + Franson? The Blues need a PP specialist, but Franson may cost a little more if he were added in there.

The Blues need a PP specialist? You mean Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk aren't getting it done offensively?

Nah, you're right. A guy who has scored 28 goals multiple times and is on pace for even more than that this year, who sticks up for his teammates and is a good sized player isn't worth someone who is currently playing in the AHL.

So, if anything, this means an insider mentioning it would justify more discussion, no? Or are you expecting people to ignore a seemingly legitimate rumour because of some trigger happy NHL 13 heroes?

What has Gardiner done to be worth equal to Stewart? Stewart is a tough player that even with his horrible season last ear averages over 26 goals per 82 games played. Stewart already has been a 64 point player with 2 28 goal season.

Gardiner is a player that has had a good rookie season but is stuck in the AHL currently when even most Leaf fans say he is 100% recovered from his concussion now.

I swear I saw a rumor thread that pertained to the Blues needing a RD, PP specialist.

I don't think he's a player that's ever going to bring a consistent, team-first effort to the rink every night of every season.

I hope I'm wrong, I like nothing more than to have good, skilled, team-oriented players playing in the NHL; it makes for a great product. But I'm not certain you have that, that's why I said what I said. If you feel otherwise, which is certainly valid, then by all means hold on to him.
So you're implying that he's only good in contract years? So his first two years must have been contract years? And last year wasn't a contract year? I think you have that backwards actually.

You are 100% mistaken. Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk are RHD. Both are very good on the Powerplay as well. The Blues do not need a PP specialist at all for either side.
