Looks like Lupul could play tomorrow. Will be good to see him back in the lineup.

That's probably the case and Lupul now has a spot, a draft choice to boot, a lot better than waiving him.

Meh. Steckel made a perfectly fine stop gap for a while.

I would have preferred if they got rid of Orr instead of Steckel. At least Steckel can play center and fill in if someone goes down and can win faceoffs/kill penalties. I have no idea why we need two tough guys in the line-up.

But its not a big deal I guess.

We could have kept Brent and it wouldn't have cost us a 4th . Poor asset manangment by the Burke .

Needed to open a spot up for Lupul. They have McClement and Komarov who can slot in at the 4th spot. Could call up Colborne.

Basically Steckel was the easiest player of no consequence to move to get Lupul a spot to come back. There is no intent with this to call up Gardiner.

I don't understand what you mean by "more AHL defense" though. Lasch is a forward.

Steckel is a ufa and likely wouldn't have been re-signed.

Better to get something rather than nothing I guess. It is sad that we gave up a 4th and now only got a 7th back.

Next up, Grabovski?

had to clear a spot for Lupul, simple as that.
now ship out a D so Gardiner can come back up and start!

Well, at least we got something for him instead of just losing him on waivers for nothing.

Lasch, currently playing in the Swedish Elite League with the Vaxjo Lakers, was a free agent signing of the Ducks on May 31, 2012. He represented Team USA at the 2012 IIHF World Championship and collected two assists in seven games. Last season, he captured the Finnish Elite League scoring title by recording 24 goals and 38 assists.

Steckel had one assist in 13 games played with Toronto this season. He joined the Maple Leafs in a trade with New Jersey on October 4, 2011.

Scout's take: St. Cloud State head coach Bob Motzko emphasizes Lasch's playmaking ability and leadership skills:

He really works hard and battles just as hard in the classroom now as he does on the ice. There's no question that he is the go-to guy on our team, but Ryan is also an unbelievable playmaker. He's got an unbelievable knack for putting the puck on his teammates' tape. A lot of nights it's very subtle but he's great at it.

From Eric Stephens of the OC Register:

At first glance, Lasch appears to be the kind of player that the Ducks are trying to get away from as they’ve sought to add size to their forward ranks. The 5-foot-8, 174-pound Lasch certainly doesn’t fit the bill there. Speed and elusiveness is the name of the game for the diminutive winger. It worked on the larger ice surface across the water but the obvious concern is whether his game is able to translate to these shores where the rinks are smaller and the puck battles are harder against the very best players in the world. Lasch has the kind of hands and puck skills that’s going to make him productive at some level

Steckel couldn't do anything but faceoff, and he was even horrible at that this year. Useless. Glad we got something for him at least.
