What happened to the more mobile and agile Doughty who would move himself into a better shooting position? He used to spin around checkers or walk the line and find an opening to get the puck through. Now he stands, waits, pump fakes, and gets his shot blocked or shoots it wide. It's gotten to a point where it is infuriating.
Or unload a hard wrister every once in a while for god's sake. Not every shot has to be a slapper. Just get the damn puck off quickly.

I don't think scuderi is bad and is done. I think it's a misconception cause he's doing **** right now, he's old, he can't handle the minutes and the responsibility. I am almost certain when our defense is healthy or we get another vet scuderi would be doing better too. I think he's fatigued and isn't thinking better cause of the wear and tear.

I can't believe we are staring down the barrel of missing Mitchell and Greene for a whole (albeit shortened) damn season. Just unbelievable bad luck.

You can't analyze the score and your opponents visor (or lack thereof) in a few seconds.

Scuds is one of my favorite players, but damn has he been horrendous. Every play he makes is the opposite of what he would normally do. So frustrating.
Well said and I agree.

The thing about Scudds is that you can see that he is trying to be the veteran leader who steps in and takes over as our number 1 dman and he just isn't capable of doing so. He is the perfect example of a second pairing mobile stay at home Dman. He is one of those guys that need to go mostly unnoticed to be effective. When he is standing out more than once or twice a game something is wrong.

I hope we keep him because when we are full roster he is a great player for us. If we had Greenie back in the line up Scuds would be doing much better and if we had WM back we would be fine.

I do agree that if the negotiations aren't going to end up with Scuderi remaining in LA that we may need to deal him to get some value.

I love our team and believe we have what it takes to win the cup but also believe that we need to get MG back at the very least to do so.

I wonder how close Greene is to returning anyone know? I really don't want to trade for a defenseman right now cause it'd cost a ton.

i may be wrong but isnt Mitchell closer to coming back than Greene? Last i heard mitchell was at least skating right now

Even then we shouldnt become depend on a return time for either. We need to assume they arent going to be back in time and solidify things on our own.

Mitchell was expected to be ready before the season ever started, so any reports on his progress should be taken with a grain of salt. I don't think anyone has a clue as to when (or if) he is coming back.

When it comes to standing up for a teammate, you either do it NOW or don't do it at all. By the time they show it on the scoreboard video screen it's too late to do anything.

It happened, it sucks. Life goes on.
Here's the thing. If Muzz wants to stand up for his teammate, you confront Dejardins and try and pick a fight. Don't make it so obvious that the refs have no choice but to give you the instigator and on top of that another minor for shield.

Believe me, I know Muzz is trying to do all the right things and he has in many ways. I just think he could have better resolve that matter.

I would bet $100 right now that Doughty's first goal is him coming down the wing on a powerplay releasing a quick wrister. Honestly, doesn't the coaching staff get sick and ****ing tired of watching him do that? I'm literally yelling at my TV. Easily worse than those stupid head fakes.

I agree with this.

Muzzin is a rookie and that was a rookie mistake. Did the right thing the wrong way but I do like what he did in principle and believe that the more comfortable he gets the more we will see JM establish the physical part of his game.

DS will make sure that JM learns how and when to make those decisions. Muzzin could have made a smarter decision. He will in time. His passion got the better of him but that is one of his strengths.

I was wondering if Sutter would change anything, esp Penner on Richards line , but from practice:

The Mayor John Hoven ‏@mayorNHL
All #LAKings forwards in same color jersey, rather than by line. Sutter is just messing with us at this point

Kopi, Brown , Carter, Richards and Stoll not present..yet.. Neither is Sutter per The Mayor

If they make visors mandatory, wouldn't the instigator with a visor rule become redundant?

Yes but the rules com revisited the instigator rule again this offseason and there is talk that it will go away anyways. Some believe that it is the reason for all of the "staged fighting" in the NHL. I believe it has been a great mistake. They are definitely looking at the whole thing though so I agree that visor bit would become redundant. In fact hopefully the whole rule will become obsolete and replaced with a smarter one. Or eliminated entirely.

The only thing I do not like about this rule is the fact that the league was making a big push for players to leave their helmets on during fights, (Iginila comes to mind as a player who usually takes his off before a fight) as they were worried about players hitting their heads on the ice.
I do not think you can have it both ways.

Muzzin's timing and how he went about it where all that was wrong. he stood up for a teammate and that is what the guys on the team want and what we want as fans. he just didn't go about it right. as others pointed out he will be taught and learn from it.

it was a clean hit, but at the same time a borderline hit. Fraser just came around and got control after fighting the puck. some call it dirty due to the timing and players exposure. right now its a clean hit.

one thing i am hating is the 'we have to fight' after a clean 'big' hit takes place. it is becoming more and more predominant for some reason. hits like last night i can see the rationale, because at game speed it looks as though Fras was exposed. others we see are obvious clean hits along the boards that guys see coming, but for whatever reason players feel the need it calls for a fight.

with what is happening in the NHL and NFL with concussions presently. it won't surprise me when we see these hits being penalized. it will be similar to the NFL rule protecting receivers 'being exposed, vulnerable and unable to protect themselves'.

the shield rule needs to go. back in the day of the dirty birds like Theo and Verbeek it was needed. those rats would always instigate, while wearing a shield. they were in the minority and it made sense back then. now that most players are wearing them, iirc i saw a stat that like 70% of the players now wear them - well it's time to change the rule.

I agree, and I'm happy our team *rarely* does this. At game speed, it looked like a headshot, and rarely do our guys stay down, so how did Sutter phrase it? We'll live with his mistakes as long as he's aggressive? I'm ok with it even though it proved costly.

I feel like I don't know the instigator rule that well, but I was surprised they gave him BOTH. I mean, I knew the 2 for visor was a given, but he didn't go far to pick a fight...I've seen less NOT get penalized.
