The people at the top are paid to recognize that he is not ready when the 6 game deadline is upon them. They failed miserably in that regard. At least they owned up to it and are doing the right thing now.

Best part of all this was John Vogl today:

UPDATE: There have been no discussions between Sabres and Quebec Remparts about sending Grigorenko back, a source told The News this afternoon.

Just called into WGR and explained to them why I believe Grigorenko was sent down and the rationale behind it.

After playing in his 6th game, Grigorenko and the Sabres did use up a year of his ELC, however because he played in less than 23 games (He played in 22), he did not "accrue a season." So again, even though playing more than 5 games would burn the first year of Grigorenko's entry level contract, it would not immediately register 2013 as an "accrued year of service" for him when figuring out UFA eligibility. In the short season, an NHL player must be dressed for 23 games for it to count as an accrued year. What this means since he played less than 23 games this season, Grigorenko will still need 7 years of service before being eligible for unrestricted free agency.

So ya, we kinda screwed up this year with him. But I choose to see the positive side of this as:

A) We save a year of his free agency status.
B) While he didn't play as much as we all hoped or with players we would've liked, he did get some experience being a NHLer.
C) Hopefully this will light a fire under him and we see him control the Q. It's playoff time for them so Grigo will be thrown into the fire.

I also don't think it was necessarily a bad thing that we kept him up, it helped shed some light on the things he has to work on before making it to the NHL

Not sure I would see it that way.

I took it as Vogl has crappy sources.

Agreed. My only minor concern is that rumors (always dangerous) are that the Remparts locker room is in disarray and lacks leadership. Although the same can be said of the Sabres locker room right now IMO.

The whole situation was a cluster****, and I'm kind of annoyed they took the belated, easy way out rather than cutting ties with some of the awful ****ing chaff on this roster (TJ Brennan, I'm looking at you, your inability to play AHL defense, specifically).

I don't like this move because it tells me the Sabres are trying to win games.

I'm pretty stoked, as I'll get to see Grigs live when Quebec inevitably faces Halifax in the playoffs.

The Sabres fan in me wishes he got to play with some skilled players while he was here.

I really wish he could have had some time with the more talented element, but I this is deemed to be better for his development then I'm all for it.

I'd love to give the Sabres credit for doing what was best for Grigo's development but they probably did this cause they don't want to waive Brennan.

Great post if accurate. Definetely explains the rationale.

(Not that I doubt it's accurate, it just makes too much...sense. Our FO lives on nonsense)

Wasting a year on his ELC is the biggest point for me, Regier needs to get fired...

I didn't have WGR on so I have to ask.

Did Schopp go on a rant about what you said and imply that you are not that knowledgeable? (I know you are correct about the year of service, but when people present facts that Schopp isn't aware of he sometimes goes into a condescending rant.) Or, did he actually listen to what you said?

Quite clear the coaches weren't going to play him. Just hope this doesn't turn him into Luke Adam v2, ie, a complete mental wreck with shot confidence because he doesn't understand what he did wrong.

This was one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't situations. Recall to the talk after his 5th game, everyone (fans) was saying he should stay, Bucky and Sully wrote their aticles about how Regier would be dumb to send him back down, etc. If he sent him own, all you would've heard is how Regier needs to be fired. There's just no way for him to win.
