Since 1993 all Stanley Cup winning teams have been American teams.

I don't understand why Canadian teams try to win when they should be trying to relocate to the USA.

No, he was drafted by the Whalers, then went to the Flames, then Ducks.

What about the salaries of Lundqvist and Rinne? Aren't they outrageous for a goaltender, since they haven't even won Stanley Cup?

Wrong, you must be good enough to make the playoffs.....

I guess could spin this and just say, cup winning goalies aren't acquired by parting with valuable assets.

drafting, developing, or FA signings are much more successful - recently

Yup, it's about getting the right pieces together at the right time. Can happen any number of ways.

There is a simple explanation that could explain this correlation. It involves 2 claims:

1) Elite goaltenders are more likely to win big games

2) Teams are unlikely to trade elite goaltenders

These two claims together would explain the interesting statistic you point out.

The first claim is almost certainly true. The second claim seems to be true as well, as the only elite goaltender in the last decade I remember being traded is Luongo from Florida. So teams essentially never trade an elite goaltender.

Goalies get hot in the playoffs. Some are only good in the playoffs (Roloson, Holtby, Ward)

It's just more evidence that throwing big money and years at a UFA goalie is a terrible idea. See Bryzgalov, Huet, Khabibulin, Luongo... I can't think of any big money goalie that's ever lived up to the contract.
Lou has two Presidents, Visna and a Gold metal.

It's been said already, but Giguere was not a product of our farm system. Bryzgalov was, but he only played in like 3 games that post-season.
