I hope not. I may be wrong but this will be his third year after the surgery? He should start to blossom this year I'd hope. But then again I'm sure Elway is going to bring in some competition for him. He'll be fighting for a roster spot along with Carter. I wouldn't be shocked to see Carter cut in camp - I'm not sold on him either. Chris Harris is twice the player Carter is...

With as pass happy as the league has got I'm a firm believer in having 3 good CBs, but we have that.

So in win-now mode still needed help upfront in a great DT draft, what sense does it make to spend that prime asset and 1st round salary on a guy who realistically could only expected to be the 4th guy on the rotation?

Besides, I am a believer that helping the front 7 helps the secondary.

Oh my Quinton Carter. Gets caught cheating at craps at a hole in the wall Vegas casino.

Carter, 24, was arrested late Saturday at the Texas Station casino in North Las Vegas after security officials reported he was videotaped adding a $5 chip to three bets after the dice already rolled, according to a police report. Carter denied wrongdoing when police arrived.

08:04 AM ET 03.15 | The clock is ticking on Elvis Dumervil's tenure in Denver, but the Broncos, as of Friday morning, were standing firm. By no later than 1:59 p.m. Friday, Dumervil will either take a pay cut or be gone from the Broncos. "These are the deals that wrench your gut," [John Elway] said Thursday. ... The Broncos have determined it would be foolhardy to pay Dumervil $12 million per year, a salary the team obviously thinks is extravagant. "It's not all about dollars. But when it's way out of whack? Then it's so out of whack that you've got to say: That (salary) can't be it. Especially when you look at the market and what's out there now," Elway told me. "It's so far out of whack. Hopefully, he realizes that."

Doom is a goner today looks like....The Kruger and Avril deals probably sealed this fate.

Yep, I too have a feeling that's where he ends up. And at a significant discount.

Now we see Michael Bennett took a 1 year 5M deal along with the 7-8 million deals of Kruger and Avril.

Elvis Dumervil restructured his contract from a $12 million base salary to $8 million according to Adam Schefter

It sounds like a restructure and not a paycut. So in the end did the Broncos budge?

That is still not clear. But I think it is a paycut and some money is now guaranteed in 2014/15. Still TBD.

Also from Schefter: "Elvis Dumervil agreed to salary reduction, smartly. Remains in Denver."

And,

"Elvis Dumervil deal also includes a $3.5 million guarantee on the 2nd day of league year in 2014."

Uh oh. Is this a joke?

Mike Klis ‏@MikeKlis
Hold on, contract not filed in time. Elvis Dumervil has been officially released

Mike Klis ‏@MikeKlis
Broncos didn't get fax with Elvis Dumervil signature on contract until 2:07 p.m. -- 7 minutes and 1 second past the deadline!

Maybe they'll still work something out.

Yeah, now I have no idea what his status is and salary cap implications. But it would seem he could still just redo the deal.

No...no, this can't be happening. Please tell me we're not seeing more agent stupidity involving a Denver sports franchise.

I dare the Patriots to come in at 10 and try to get Dumervil. That'd be the biggest mistake Bill makes.

I think Dooms agent tried to pull a fast one on the Broncos here. If we didn't cut him he'd be guaranteed 12 mill

Apparently the agent messed up and didn't fax the contract in time.

From Jeff Darlington:

Quote:
Wild stuff on Dumervil right now: It's clock management. Agent made a "colossal mistake," source says, by not getting signed contract faxed.
Quote:
Team hadn't received signed contract via fax at 1:59 p.m. If Broncos didn't waive Elvis, they had to pay original $12 million, source says.
Quote:
"We had to protect ourselves," Broncos source said. In other words, they had to cut Dumervil despite agreement to reduction 35 min. earlier.

Yeah that was my immediate thought too. Not sure his current deal was even voided.

Wow...if I'm Dumervil, I fire my agent right then and there. Just cost his client millions.

And this...

@Jeff_Legwold: Dumervil's release gives #Broncos huge dead money hit. Limits ability to bring him back with a "new'' deal
