OT: Tuggy coming to Montreal!

I'll be in Montreal this upcoming weekend. Me and a bunch of friends are coming up to celebrate the final days of a fellow bachelor. It's been a few years since I've been up to Montreal so I'd thought I ask some of the locals for some advice.

Basically our plan is pretty much just to get really drunk, oogle beautiful women and gamble. So maybe I could get some inside info on some nice locations. If talking about strip clubs on here is a problem then maybe some of you could PM me with the best spots

I'd also like to get some info on the casino. I hear it's pretty big and a few of us are pretty big gamblers. We've recently been up to Niagara Falls and their new casino is pretty sweet. Are most of the card game tables high stakes (minimum bets)?

Also what are some good "pub" style bars. We're not really looking to hit any dance bars or anything but rather sit down bars where you can get some pitchers and some good food.

Any info is appreciated and I'm sure we'll have a good time.

The casino is big and pretty crowded. It's nice though, I'm a big gambler and I visit every so often. From what I remember, they have some cheap card tables (min bet $5) but it depends on the night. The weekends tend to have less cheap tables but for example, a Tuesday morning might have some $3 tables or less. I usually hit up the $1 roulette tables (there are only 2) and get my jollies off that.

Bars...Well I have a few suggestions. I find the new 3 Brasseurs they opened on Cresent and St Catherine's to be pretty good. It's big and they serve beer by the litre, and the food is really great but I don't know if it's open every night. I went 2 Saturdays ago and it was closed for some reason. Mad Hatters is the typical beer-pool-food type of place, not too expensive but alot of 16 year olds there.

A place me and my friends have been going to since we were like 15 is Cafe Veranda which is on Prince Arthur next to Cafe Campus. It's a restaurant by day, bar by night. They have a really nice Terrasse in the back and some big TVs. It's virtually always empty because nobody knows about it. Cheap beer, and amazing food. The menu is about 20 pages long and they have pretty much everything. I love that place but don't expect the best atmosphere. You won't really pick up any girls there or anything and it's dead with crap music. It's a good place to go if you want to get drunk and chill with your friends. Sometimes it's randomly packed but mostly it's dead. It used to be more popular a few years ago when it was called Cafe du Nuit. Across the street is Vol du Nuit which is more packed but I don't think it has food.

Cool Dave, thanks for the info. Like I said a bunch of us are pretty big gamblers and I expect us to spend most of Saturday there. I love casinos.

Hmmm...

Well, we do have a casino, its on the Parc Jean-Drapeau (pretty much anybody, including the metro employees, can help you find it, its not difficult).

For pubs, I would suggest the Pub St-Elizabeth (the terrasse is very nice). Its on 1412 Sainte-Elizabeth, corner St-Catherine, near the junction of st-catherine and St-Denis. Its on a little side street (St-Elizabeth) so its a bit tricky to find it. Arrive early on weekends because it has become a very popular spot these past years.

Other than that, there is always good irish pubs. The McKibbins is on 1426 Bishop St. (corner St-Catherines, not very far from Crescent) Its typical irish fare with the exception that they serve 1/2 pound burgers (they are very tasty).

Another Irish pub is Hurleys (not very far from the McKibbins), on 1225 Crescent (corner St-Catherines). Its a bigger bar so if there is no place at McKibbins or you find it too stuffy, its always a good 2nd option.

There are also Microbrewery. These places (like the 3 Brasseurs) usually brew their own beer. These is Brutopia near crescent, the 3 Brasseurs on a few locations, L'Amer A Boire on St-Denis and La Brasserie du Cheval Blanc on ontario (I think).

If you are going to a microbrewery to taste new beers I would not recommend les 3 Brasseurs, because they offer pretty standard beers (Pale, Red... blah blah blah). The Brasserie du Cheval Blanc is a bit more stuffy and a bit "hippy" but they serve a wide variety of different brews that is sure to please wild spirits (I once saw chocolate beer... wow..).

For the nudies bar, trust me you've got choice. Quality is usually rumored to be found at Chez Paré (a legendary haunting place of visiting hockey players). Chez Paré is expensive and I found their girls to be pretty much in the same mold last time I went (and it was a long time ago, so it can be different).

If you want volume, you can go to the Super Sexe on St-Catherine. They can have 30+ girls on certain nights.

Other bar I've heard were ok were the Solid Gold and L'Axe.

Stay away from seedy places like "La Caleche du Sexe", unless you want a special "all you can touch" experience with Auntie Carole.

You can have a bachelor party in a strip club...for having seen a couple it can get very interesting.

Yes. Its called "a stag" and it can be a very.... hmmm... memorable experiement.

There's nothing like seeing your best friend nude on a stage having his *** spanked with his own belt by two nude dominatrix/lesbian type dancers to build up memories.

Last time I went to the casino (Friday, 21st), the lowest minimum bet was $15 (I won $300 at War).

I also recommend the new Trois Brasseurs and Ste Elizabeth for its terasse.

Oh man I totally forgot about St-Sulpice on Saint-Denis...Best terrace in Montreal by far and the beer and food is cheap and good. But from experience the service there is all in French so it can be tough if you don't speak French. Really, really nice place though.

Don't forget to eat a poutine!! You'll be proud of yourself when you'll return home. Also, some guys don't bother coming here cause' they can't speak french. You don't need to speak french to come visit Mtl.

I honestly prefer the Ste Elizabeth terrace, but St Sulpice is nice too. I love their poutine too... so here's another vote for it.

If you got some cash, go to La Ronde. It's crowded but it's an awesome amusement park. As for good bars and all, I don't know much of em' (cause' I'm a minor). I like going to La Cage aux sports though, the chicken wings are awesome (and it was fun watching the habs when I had no tv). The old montreal is a must too....awesome restaurants and awesome ice cream .

I always thought War was a strange game to have in a casino.

Me too.. the Blackjack tables are nice and you can become lifelong (read: hour-long) friends with the people gambling with you.

If you're gonna go ahead and spend a fair amount of time at a strip club. Go to Solid Gold. (its not downtown so you can hit it around 1 am after you've hit the bars.. and then go to the casino at 3-4 am...)

Cool man. I'll keep that in mind and run it by the boys to see what they think.

Ya, you can spend hours at the same table and have a great time/convo with all sorts of people. Of course that's a two way street....as I've been stuck beside real morons before.

Yo man, I was at La Boom on Saturday night! It was definitely one of the better clubs I've been to here in Montreal. I love the different clubs in different floors theme, and the drinks were reasonably priced ($4 for a Molson Dry is a very good deal!). We got on the Montreal Nightclub guest list, which told us to be there before 1130. We got there around 1125, but the bouncer told us to stand on the other side of the road. By the time he called us, it was 1135, and he told us the guest list was over at 1130! Outrageous! But ah well, I had a really good time once we got in!

737 was a good club too. I've also been to Tokyo and 1234, but for me La Boom and 737 have been the best.

BTW, I'm not from Montreal, I'm just here for school. If anybody else has any recommendations or hookups or anything, please inform me!!!

Casino is pretty damn nice. I think the minimum for all card games is $10. The wait can be 20-30 minutes for a table though, it's always almost packed there.

If you want a bar where you can augle girls go to Sir Winston Churchill's on Crescent. It's one place with three floors. Bottom is the bar/dance floor (called Sir Winston Churchill's), middle is Winnie's which is a restaurant/bar, and the top floor is the club Karina's. The bottom floor is full of sleazebags though, but some hot women, and the dancefloor is very packed, so mucho touching
