On the subject of the roof, the dept in charge, RIO, is considering either a fixed roof or an retractable one.

The thing is the existing support beams are very weak, since originally the weight of a light fabric roof was suppose to be borne by the tower, so you can't just bolt something on top.

I just came across this report on one of the most likely solutions if they go with a retractable solution:
http://www.radio-canada.ca/emissions...p?idDoc=244273

It looks great, robust, reliable, but is expensive($300-$400 Million). I don't know if there is any political will for anything like that.

I get hopeless about the place, but then I think of the ~900,000 visitors the Biodome gets yearly, and the ~200,000 visitors that go up the tower, plus all the sports activities(amateur or professional) plus the Botanical garden next door.

That place has massive potential if its run right.

I cant believe a roof could cost as much as 400M$. It's almost the amount to build an arena.

The roof should be recractable and cheap or bust.

Yup. Another idea that I really like is going back to the original design. A fabric roof that is stored in the tower and goes down on wires.

The original one was made of kevlar, and ripped and got tangled regualrly.

But that was a 40 years old design. materials technology now makes kevlar look like toilet paper. So the idea is that if the redo the original idea they can make it work properly this time.

It's the only solution that will be close to reasonable, since everything else relies on fortifying the concrete, which is what makes it so expensive.

Anyone still has that tweet by the official IMFC account where they answered the guy who said the Impact was a graveyard for Italian soccer players?

No, but I think it was an answer to the official Sounders account.

Haven't been posting much lately, but man what a start to the season! We already have as many road wins this year as we had all of last season

According to the Impact website, 3000 tickets remaining, more than 34000 sold. So it looks like we should expect a crowd of 37000 more or less (don't know if that includes the TFC fans in the upper bowl). Should be a great game!

34,000 does not include TFC fans. So them plus last minute sales should get us to around 40,000.

Anyone have any theories on why its so much lower than the 59,000 from last year?

I am surprised, since I thought people liked what they say last year and thus more would be interested this time. Plus the prices are about the same too

Last year they sold the game as "the first home game in the history of the club" therefore making it an event. Montreal is an event city, that's why we got 59k. Same thing for the Beckham game, they marketed it as THE event of the month.

Two other factors:

- The Habs are in first place.
- UFC is at the Bell Center on the same night.

Saw on Twitter that only 4k tickets are yet to be sold. I think it'll be packed.

Only 3K remaining now. The lower bowl will be packed, but the upper bowl will be empty, minus the TFC fans.

Just had a back and forth with Brian Wilde on Twitter, he raised a good point.

Unlike every other year in the teams history, there are no (easy) group sales, no discounted tickets, no groupon, no free tickets.

No "cheap" upper deck tickets.

Its a business decision that wants people to see value in the team. Providing a cheap way in goes against that.

So i guess in the long term, 35,000 paid seats are better than 60,000 discounted ones.

I don't really understand the UFC argument. I mean the Impact game is from 4 to 6 (more or less) and the UFC PPV starts at 10PM...

It's not the UFC who draws people out, it's the habs. I'm not going to say that montrealers are completely uninterested with soccer this season but right now the hype is not where it should be considering our 2 wins on the road.

I dont understand why you guys are panicking for having 37k+4k from Toronto. That'd be twice the capacity of SS. The attendance objective in my mind is no less than 18k for SS games, that's the real key indication.

Last year's 1st game was the 1st ever Impact game. And we need to stop doing comparison with the habs, nothing in this city will ever come close to the habs, even with half as much home games and at 1/3rd tickets prices, the Impact will struggle to attract as much people in the stands.

I really hope you're not insulting UM02 (Ultras Montreal) right there....they give the team passion and they're the only reason the atmosphere at Saputo Stadium is great.

Random Thought. In 4-5 Years for now, Let's get Yoann Gourcuff (If he stays healthy, which basically means this is impossible) . Every time I see his name, I just cant help but think of this

Hes talking about the digitalized version of the chant that is played through the olympic stadiums speaker.
