At least we're screwing Calgary over in the process.

Need to win the next 3 games. With that said, I highly doubt it.

Yes. More likely a three game losing streak than winning streak.

1-1-1 seems like a realistic expectation.

If you're talking about almost any other team having 13 of their remaining 21 games at home would be a godsend. With this team? Nope.

As much as I hate to think about one game being a deal breaker, giving the Wings two points, and losing one really hurt our playoff chances.

IMO to make the playoffs the Oil basically need to win 2/3 games the rest of the way to keep pace with the rest of the west. Is it do-able? Yes. Is it likely?

....unfortunately I don't think so. Pleaaaaase prove me wrong though Oil.

It's definitely possible, but there's no chance it will happen unless we get some offence from Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins.

It's been Gagner, Hemsky and especially Hall basically every single night.

If we get more from the two players mentioned above then it's possible. We need probably 28 points in our last 21 games; in other words, we need to be about 13-6-2 or 12-5-4 from here on.

I actually think it's not too farfetched for us to still make it. But the games with Nashville coming up are the two games we need to get 4 points out of without letting them grab one. If we fail in that, I think we are going to have a lot of trouble catching up.

I remember in 06 I could see how good that we could be. I always said that we were a goalie away from making some noise. We got that and made an incredible run, I don't feel that it was as much if lightning in a bottle that some people think. The problem with THIS team is u can't put a finger on what is wrong with them. Compete level maybe?

This team really really really needs to rip off 5 or 6 in a row now.

I dont see them making the playoffs, I would give them credit for the game against DET, the first two periods they did dominate. The 3rd period DET came out and the penalties killed us. That is part of having such a young team. As long as they play hard like they did in the first two periods against DET I will be happy no matter where they end up. This is a developing year. I was not expecting them to make the playoffs.

Lazar will look good on this team in the future.

I wasn't expecting them to make the playoffs this season, and I still don't.

I was expecting them to be in the 'thick of things' near the trade deadline.

To some extent I'm right, but at the same time so is the entire conference (cept Chicago and Anaheim). 6 Points between 3rd and 14th is pretty silly for 20 games left on the season.

That said, I wouldn't be shocked if Columbus made it in, and Rangers didn't. Nash trade would be very ironic.

.
It's an illusion. 6 points is closer to 6 miles than 6 inches with 20 games left.

The games coming up will seal the Oilers' fate. If they beat Nashville twice and San Jose once, they'll probably be 2-3 points out of a playoff spot depending on how Phoenix does, and they'd jump Nashville and probably someone else in the standings. Lose any of those games and they're pretty much done.

And we had the pieces to make a run. Unless some Oiler turns godly in the next five games, the vault must be kept sealed.

Nowhere near the same talent level.

Here are the two teams records with 21 games left in the season:

2005-06 32-21-8
2012-13 10-11-6

The '06 Oilers went 9-7-5 over their last 21 games.

If that is the record for this team over the remainder of the season the Oil are looking at 11th - 13th in the conference.

It is not about points, it is points above .500

#8 team is 4 points above .500

we are 1 pioint below .500

when you win a game you get 2 points but add 1 game so you are only gaining 1 point above 500 per win.

we are 5 points. so 5 wins behind #8
looking at the point total and thinking
a 2 point game brings us alot closer
gives a false impression

That 5 points we need to play 6 games and win them all while the other team goes .500.

Were not 5 wins behind #8, we are 5 points behind, if we win and they lose, we gain 2 pts. Your way of thinking is actually giving the false impression were 5 games behind when in reality we are 2.5. Why over analyze it, its not only wrong but silly.

Mathematically, sure.

But the team can't close out a 2-0 lead for 20 minutes and hasn't had a win streak past a couple games. Expecting them to win two thirds of their remaining games is very unrealistic.

We'll have some great wins, but great stretch of games isn't in the cards.
