Not really. Corvo is a good forward skater and has a hard shot. A PP QB has to be a guy with great vision, great passing, and a lot of poise. Corvo's passing isn't great, he doesn't have great vision and isn't very poised back there IMO.

Think of guys like Markov, Kaberle (in his prime), Gonchar, Lidstrom, Enstrom, Boyle, Pronger, Streit, Liles (in his prime), etc... I'm sure there are more current players that fit that bill as well (Doughty for instance).

The bottom line is that our special teams are costing us games. The loss to the Caps is almost entirely due to our not being able to score on four power plays and the Caps scoring a big PPG. Until we get this fixed, we're not going far. It's time for Muller to ear nis paycheck.

We've always been terrible at the PP (well, the past few years), but this is certainly a change.

More diving!!

I think we'll score some PP goals soon... We'll provided we avoid those dreaded 5-3 PP opportunities, then there's no chance we'll score

Pitkanen. Whatever happened to that guy, anyway?

Tend to forget he's still on the team. If he's back and healthy, he's obviously the man for the job.

I was torn on him. He is the best option for Carolina now (if healthy). IMO, based on his skillset, he should be a better PP QB than he actually ends up being though. He is a good passer, does have decent vision and a good shot (when he takes it), but he doesn't always slow it down enough or control the play in a manner that benefits the rest of the guys on the ice, and he does still prefer to skate it a lot even in the zone on the PP (Forslunds: "Joni Pitkanen circles the wagons"). Maybe it's just my imagination, but it almost seems like they really don't know what he's going to do (other than Jokinen) and that reduces the effectiveness. In fairness, he's 1 of 5 on the ice and the PP is a lot about how the 5 work together so I can't say it's all on him.

Watching Markov a few games on the MTL PP is a contrast. He's not as skilled as Pitkanen, but there is a calmness to him when he as the puck. Hard to completely describe, but it's almost like the other players know that if they do their job, Markov will make the right play so they don't need to worry about that. He makes the rest of them better.

Pitts is skilled but does his own thing. He wants HIS play, and like you say no one else knows what that is, other than jokinen. Chemistry and obvious choices are better than higher skill. I'm not a Pitts fan.

Is that limited to as a PP option, or all together?

In any case, I can see him on the 2nd unit with the aforementioned Jokinen. He can't be any worse at it than Harrison (which is the current setup)

Altogether really. He's played really well this year overall, and he improves when he isn't the clear number one overall guy. He's just not my favorite. To me he's soft and not particularly durable. He's a great skater, passer and minute muncher due to that passive style. He's a top pairing guy for us, and I'm a fan of someone more aggressive in some way on the top pairing. Would definitely prefer more of a leader. He's an exceptional player, he just always rubbed me the wrong way.
