Whoa, this is weird. The Avs always, and I mean always wait until the seasons over to sign their prospects.

Wonder if they're planning on calling him up now.

Ottawa is one of the worst teams in the whole CHL.

Nice to see Beaupre signed, oh yeah.

The way our D has been doing, I wouldn't be surprised especially looking at the timing of the signing.

I know. I was refering to him now playing 1st line with Monahan.

Oh and very happy with Beaupre as well. He is having a very good season with both Denver and LEM.

My guess is the contract starts next season, after his deal with the LEM is over. Beaupre is probably 2 years away from contributing IMO.

Good for Beaupre, he's going to be a very good unheralded bottom pairing guy for us.

i didn't really know anything about Pock until this year. Does he have any NHL potential, or is he pretty much an AHL player?

While he has over 100 NHL games, he was never really expected to be anything more than a 6/7 D

honestly i would say 3 but he is gritty so 2 might be more accurate.

Thanks. I figured since I hadn't heard of him he was not headed up anytime soon.

Yup, it would appear as if we signed Lauridsen as well. Glad to see it. Wonder what will happen with the Lipon situation now.

Funny Chouinard tweeted that considering Lauridsen will probably take over his spot next year.

Possibly, I don't know what the details are, but the Avs always sign guys like Beaupre in the off seasons, and they sign them all around the same period of time. They allocate a certain period to evaluate these guys, make they're decisions on them, and then move on to different types of players. Even under Sherman.

The fact they're doing things a bit differently with him, means there's something different about Beaupre.

They just did it for Lauridsen as well.

Maybe, although it's still unclear on what's going on with him. Something definitely seems different though. Whether these players signify something different about them and their role this season, or signifies a difference in approach from the way this team does business.

This is what I'm interested in as well. I understand he'll be drafted this year? Where is he projected to go? And do you think Avalanche is going to go for him in the draft?

If it's different it could mean the Avs are really actually planning a BOMBFIRE SALE with our D and planning to use those guys after the trade deadline. I'd be surprised if that were the case, they would be over-evaluating how many teams out there need depth d-men that are signed beyond this season.

I'm glad we signed Lauridsen as well. He probably won't ever make it to the NHL, but deserves a chance to develop further with Lake Erie.

I really, really doubt that these contracts are for this season. There are plenty of prospects being signed around the league for next season.

If I remember right we signed Hishon to his ELC in March of 2011, this is no different than that.

So are these future contracts then? Just trying to keep up on how many contracts the Avs have as they're approaching the limit of 50. I think they're at 46 not counting these 2.

46 is correct. Connelly, Malone, Gaunce, DVG, Sullivan, Chouinard, L. Walker, Thomas, Pock, Lerg, and G Walker all expire after this season. Of those I expect Malone, DVG, L. Walker, Thomas, and one more to be retained. That leaves the Avs with 42 contracts with the two new ELCs included. Then I expect them to sign Meurs, Nermark, Bourke, Smith, and assuming he leaves college Condon to be signed. That gives 47 for next season.

Edit: Forgot Gaunce. I think he will be retained, unless he has really fallen out of favor.
