Lasr season his ppg was above .95 ; this season it has slipped to just above. 80....last game he was vdry slow to loose pucks and had more puck fumbles than I can everr recalll...is he losing it, already?

Nope not at all

- Defensively still an ace
- Offensively still dangerous

For his stats to improve he needs to be on line with a more creative playmaking type C (Ribiero would fit)

When your posts aren't scale to the John Hancock Center people can actually read what you mean to say. You are learning.

To say Hossa is declining is not asinine, but it's not true. It's just something that can be proven either way. You don't have a very good sample size, so I'm not saying he's falling at all.

he's not the 40 goal scorer he once was. not sure if its because of all the shoulder problems, but his shot leaves me wanting.

Shortest HF 50 post I've ever seen. Nope! Watch his play, points don't mean everything!

I dont think that's fair to Hossa. He was so dominant offensively in the early season. He's always dominant defensively. Sure, a lapse here or there, but I'd still take a team of Hossa's over a team of almost anyone else on the roster.

Also, you have to take into account sample size; 26 vs. 81.

I think we can ask this question in a year or two.

Yes, he has been for a while now.. and that's okay he is still a great player.

But yeah his shot really is a concern

TSN just had their guys pick the top 8 players in the league at each position. At RW Kane came first and I believe Hossa was third. So if you have any faith in that, he's still highly thought of. The question though, and it's legitimate, is how good he will be in the 7 years remaining after next year. Is his decline gradual (or even barely noticeable like Selanne), or does he go down fast after age 35-36 like most guys. At least we have this year and next just to let him play and not have to worry about it.

Of course he is, but so it every player his age and older. Jagr, Selanne, Doan, Alfredsson, are all worse now then in their prime. Hossa isn't as old as them but players in their high 30s to 40s aren't the same players as they were in their 20s and low 30s. Still very good players just not at their very best anymore.

This one right here.

Hossa's not quite the stud he once was, and he may never be at that level again.

But even a minor decline for players of his caliber still has them among the best in the world at their position.

he was better when he was with the Thrashers, but he was younger too and he is still Top 5 at his position. Nothing wrong with that

Correct. As great as Toews is, he is not the same playmaker as Kane when he was at C last season. Plus, he's also playing with a rookie in Saad.

Hossa's scoring pace is usually a good indicator of leaguewide scoring. Notice his big point totals came in 05-06 and 06-07 when scoring league wide was insanely high. He's still a ~70 point player, which in today's Western Conference is pretty impressive. I'm guessing he'd be PPG if he was with an Eastern Conference team.

Exactly. Hossa backchecks as hard as any player in the league. This thread needs to be closed and opened again in about 2 years time to see if anything has changed. Right now, perhaps after Toews, Hossa is our best all around player.

Hossa and Toews are pretty even when it comes to skill. I wouldn't rank one of them over the other as far as all around skill goes.

I'm amazed. It was a short post and neither Kane nor Turris was mentioned.
