For example, if Calgary says they want 5 1st round picks, these teams will fork over 5 1st round picks. It's that simple.

Go back one page and read the Calgary Herald article. Calgary's mgmt and ownership is perfectly content with Iggy walking away as a free agent this summer, rather than trade him away for what they believe is less than fair value for their franchise player.
The only thing that is simple, is that no team would be that stupid.

Definitely not.

No GM would give up several 1sts for Iginla simply because "he's Iginla". That's asinine.

If Iginla is worth 5 1sts as a rental what is a 2 time cup winner like Rob Scuderi worth as a rental?

His name means nothing to every other team except the Flames.

That said I'd still like him on the Bruins for less than 5 1st round draft picks. Any recent rumors besides just naming teams interested and speculation by us fans?

Calgary should keep Iginla.

How much longer will he be your franchise player?

I would suggest to you that most of Calgary's problems are due to the fact that your statement is true.

To PIT: Jarome Iginla (signs 3-yr/15M extension)
To CAL: Joe Morrow, 2013 1st

Iginla wins the championship he deserves with the Pens and Calgary begins to rebuild for the future.

I agree, however the "block user" function is your friend

To further your point Iginla sits 14th all time in GPG in the playoffs with 0.52, and third among all active players trailing only Martin St. Louis and Alexander Ovechkin.

Jarome should be incredibly disappointed that he is not in the top 10 all time!

Not happening. Not even sure pittsburgh is even interested for anything more than a 2nd round pick

Iginla is certainly worth more than a 2nd rounder but I'd be pretty pissed if Shero gave up Morrow & a 1st. If the price is that high I'd just as soon they looked for less pricey/not so big name rentals.

Agreed.

I think most of us Pens fans know Iginla will be costly. We know it's going to take our 1st and a top prospect. We just don't want to trade Morrow. I think there's quite a few Pens fans that would offer as much as Derrick Pouliot (8th overall last draft) + a 1st and maybe a throw in or two like TK. I'm not crazy about that idea myself but there's more than a few Pens fans that would bid that high for Iginla.

What about Maatta? Maatta + 1st?

Maatta + 1st is fine too.

I think Morrow is the only prospect we don't want to move for Iginla. I don't count Bennett and Despres as prospects anymore since they are NHL contributors and not going anywhere.

Considering the price, I wouldn't be surprised if Shero has backed away already on Iggy. Shero is not one to over pay for anyone, let alone a 35 year old UFA. Most I would give would be TK, Maata and a second rounder. Probably not enough and Flames fans will say they would rather keep him, and I'm fine with that.

I'd give Pouliot, but as has been brought to my attention, our board values the offensive d-men more than the all-round d-men, so the majority of us would give up Maatta, I'm fine with that...but I'd rather keep Maatta than Pouliot...but no Morrow, its basically taboo to bring his name up for trade discussions with us

On the one hand, Iginla's a worthless ageing rental that will be lucky to return a 2nd round pick.

On the other hand, the Flames future will be absolutely screwed if they don't move him at the deadline . . . for that all important 2nd round pick.

I'd be furious if Shero acquired Iggy for a first and a D prospect. It would take that much to get him, but Pittsburgh shouldn't be wasting assets on a rental. Pittsburgh has the top scoring team in the league. Unless he can provide a physical presence on the third line or be the second coming of a younger Brooks Orpik on the backend, Iggy isn't really needed in Pittsburgh. We have other spots we need to improve on.

Yes, I'd be the opposite. Pouliot has the much higher ceiling, so I don't want him going anywhere. Maata, on the other hand, doesn't have the same ceiling but is a jack of all trades and I'd be fine with using him to get a winger.

Who said he's worth a second....

That's just plain stupidity...he's guaranteed a 1st and good to great prospect...

Exactly.

If Calgary traded Iginla, HF would joke about the return. Or if the return was undeniably good, they'll acknowledge that but then quip that it's still not going to fix the team.
