Saying that I will assume that the return is a 1st + top prospect/young roster player.

Can't imagine HF offers anything near what a real GM would

Playmaker to go with Kesler would be nice. Canucks don't have much to help a rebuild.. Kevin Connauton +

You can expect plenty goals and assists from Pommer. Pom-Kesler line would be good for Canucks.

If Buffalo was trading Pominville to rebuild, does that mean they could retain some of his salary? As it stands I don't think Vancouver can afford to add a $5M+ guy next year, but I think he would be great on our second line.

He's already on a pretty sweet contract. I think most trams could handle it but I'm sure buffalo could eat some if it meant increased return

Jensen is too talented to move before getting a chance in the NHL. It could make the GM look very very stupid.

Offer:
Booth - Van needs outgoing salary, Booth is a 2nd/3rd line player who is overpaid for his production but still has potential to fulfill his salary, plays a very physical skating style and beats defenders 1 on 1 but has limited awareness of teammates.

1st round pick

Connauton - has some offensive skill and has improved defensively at the AHL level. He has yet to get a shot in the NHL after being bypassed by Tanev(I don't think this is indicative of much given Tanev's play). The Canucks are stocked full of LHD, could Buffalo use a young one ready to be a NHL rookie next year?

Most teams probably could, I just don't think Vancouver is one of them.

Buffalo would expect..2013 #! + 1 or 2 young players....depending on their quality.

Outside of UFA signings Buffalo's only salary increase would be from resigning RFA Hodgson--likely following Ennis contract of a 2 yr bridge contract of $3M-$3.5M

for UFAs--Hecht and Leopold not coming back
Pardy could be resigned at less....or let to walk
Regehr would be kept or re-sign for something cheaper than $4M (Maybe 2 yr $5M)
Sulzer would be resigned at around the same amount (1 or 2 yr deal)
RFAs Weber , Flynn, and Enroth would be resigned at a marginal salary increase. Flynn and Weber could be higher based on their play.....not more than $2M per

As a net their salary cap number would likely decrease by about $7M

If they trade Pominville, Miller, or Vanek they can eat part of their contract but that will mean more in talent return.

That is another factor in any trades made.

their current play salaries plus dead players they are right near the $64.3M wall.

In any trade they are not all that interested in eating salary in players coming back.

Jensen isn't even all that enticing, Buffalo needs as many players capable of playing against top competition as possible.

The ideal package is: RFA checking center/winger or shutdown defenseman, prospect, pick.

And PIT would be able to make that contract work next year, so this seems like a really good option all around.

Something involving Niskanen or Orpik?

Orpik/Niskanen + Maatta + 2nd

for

Jason Pominville

Orpik hasn't played shutdown minutes in a season and a half (not to mention Buffalo's awful track record with aging, physical defensemen in Rivet and Regehr) while Niskanen hasn't really been able to handle an uptick in QoC, with him and Letang at the top of the Pens goals against charts.

If the pick becomes a first, Buffalo is fine with either one coming back as the "NHL piece" in the deal, but otherwise, the value just isn't there.

no chance I take essentially a late first, a late 2nd and #4 defenceman for a 65+ point all situations winger who happens to be our captain.

I have said before and I will say it again, teams like Vancouver and Pittsburgh don't have the pieces that will make Buffalo part with Pommer.

Not good enough.
1) If we're selling one of Buffalo's goals is going to be offloading salary. Pominville is on a pretty sweet deal at 5.3m. Buffalo wouldn't take back what's essentially a cap dump/2nd Stafford in Booth unless we were getting increased value for doing so, which is clearly not happening here.

2) The young player/prospect would have to be better than Connauton. He doesn't look like he offers much defensive or physical upside, and we already got rid of two project offensive defensman in Brennan and Gragnani and have another in the pipeline in Gauthier-Leduc. We need real value coming back for a 60-70 point two-way playmaking winger, and if we're not getting a top prospect, it's just not worth our while. Deal would have to start with Gaunce or Jenson. Even Jensen would, at best, be Buffalo's 3rd best prospect after Grigorenko and Armia. I know many Nuck fans consider him untouchable, but I'm sure many thought the same about Hodgson too until he was traded.

TL;DR: Not enough value.

It'll be a large overpayment...players like him don't become available to often and he is on a great contract and signed beyond this year. Not being a homer but if buffalo was looking to aquire him I would offer 1st grigs/ennis and mcnabb. But he has positive value and thus buffalo should max his value now.
