Just wanted to post that I am pleasantly surprised by Pickards play. From what I understand his last season wasn't great in the WHL. Good to see. Good to have a good goalie prospect.

Pickard only played on terrible teams, the talent was always there. I'll be very surprised if he isn't a starter in the NHL someday. When JSG leaves after next season Pickard will be our backup.

He played on one of the worst teams in WHL history, so his numbers can't really look too hot.

Pickard will be the starter by then if current Avalanche negotiation policy continues unchanged.

To expand on that, Pickard currently holds the WHL record for most career saves.

Vancouver, B.C. – Calvin Pickard of the Seattle Thunderbirds became the WHL’s All-Time leader in career saves on Sunday night in Vancouver, B.C.

The 19-year-old from Winnipeg, MB, stopped 42 of 45 shots he faced in a 3-2 setback to the Giants, giving him 6,959 career saves, eclipsing the previous long-held record of 6,958 saves set by former Thunderbirds netminder Danny Lorenz (1986-1990).

Great...then he'd be right at home behind the Avs' D.

At this rate the LE "Moon Stars" won't make the playoffs.

Let's go Hishon!

I hope the Avs are patient with him and let him regain his form over the next couple years.

They seem like they got the 4th shift, are they the defacto 4th line?

Counted 5 or 6 shifts for Hishon. Good instincts for the puck. Couple nice stick lift takeaways. Lost his man in coverage once. Led to a scoring chance. Shifty player. Looks tentative to carry the puck.

Has his legs under him already though.

Yep.

Good final shift for Hishon. Out there with Carey 4 on 4. Threw a couple hits.

Hishon looked good for being his first game in forever. Beaupre looked really good IMO. First time I have seen him in a month-month and half, and he has really improved since then (look at his skating last year in the Q and this year it has changed drastically)! We now have two legit lefties in the system with him and Siemens.

Paul Ranger is seriously a hollywooding little b*tch. He hammed up two hits and then stayed on the ice for the next shift.

First one drew a boarding penalty, where he crumbled like he was knocked out cold, but then stayed on the ice for the PP.

Second he fell down trying to act like he wasn't hooking a guy or something, and stayed on one knee for literally 30 seconds causing the trainer to come out, while he just looked around at his teammates without showing any pain.

Then when he skated toward the bench the Erie broadcast had a closeup of Dallas Eakins with a displeased look on his face, and as Ranger skated by you could see Eakins calling his name expecting him to come off the ice, and when he skated to the other end of the ice for the faceoff, Eakins just shook his head and literally looked disgusted at him.

Not to mention how he just quit on Tampa Bay... Ranger is a joke.

This Marlies team is pretty damn dirty.

I must say that Monster's PP is absolutely awful.

The Pony Express hasn't quite made it with the memo saying to use 5 forwards on the PP going forward.

Yea, he had some kind of big time personal issues to sort out or something.

That second play where he just stayed on one knee forever without seeming to be in any pain, and then just skated down the ice for the faceoff was one of the most pathetic things I've seen from a hockey player.
