Datsyuk is the best 2 way player in the world

He is the most complete player in the world. His defensive game is underrated, hope he wins another Selke. People compare him to Fedorov, hes a step above. If its true that he plans on going back to Russia to play after next year (according to CBC) that will put a huge hole on the wings roster and the sport will really miss him.

Someone posted advanced stats a few days ago. Bergeron was a step above.

I also feel that Zetterberg is a better player this year.

Federov peaked higher than all but two forwards post Gretzky. 120+ points, Hart and Selke.

I think so... he'd make the top line in the world if it could be put together...

It's still hockey in Russia.

Pretty arguable. Bergeron is having a good year and Datsyuk isn't getting any younger. He may have had a good game but that doesn't really change much.

He won 3 straight Selke's.

I know that the game vs the Canucks was the first Red Wings game you've ever watched, but everyone else in the hockey world knows how good Datsyuk is.

He's easily been a top 3 defensive forward for the past 5 years, probably would've been #1 in all of them if not for injuries.

So I disagree with the thread title.
Crosbys defensive game isnt even in the same universe as Pavels.

I will even say that Datsyuk defensive game is better than Fedorovs, and Fedorov was one of the best 2 way players of the 90s.

I laughed hard, not a chance.

Bergeron is a great player and any team would be lucky to have him,but there is no way Bergeron is a better player, his linemates are much better than Pavel's, and Boston is just a much better team. Put Datsyuk in Bergeron's place and the Bruins certainly wouldn't miss a beat.

Nobody will argue his 2 way ability. I have him #4 overall in the top players in the league. Crosby/Geno/Stamkos/Datsyuk. They are on that top tier that few players get to.

That type of hockey makes up for what he doesn't get in point production (like Stammer does). He's a treat to watch.

He's been borderline bad in his own zone this year. It's easily his worst defensive season I can remember.

It's a common argument many of the people that argue against the hype surrounding him, and it's false. Zetterberg's been solid, but Pavs is carrying the lion's share of any responsibilities require of a top six forward in the NHL.

Datsyuk is above a PPG despite playing the entire season with Cleary and Abdelkader as his linemates. That says it all.

Also, Datsyuk lead the league in points per minute twice in his career but no one ever talks about it because Malkin/Ovechkin/Crosby always got so much more icetime, especially ont he PP, and a lot of Datsyuk's minutes go to playing on the PK. Playing for the Wings has hindered what Datsyuk might have been able to do on a team that used him only to try and score as much as he possibly can. I'd love for him to play for a high-scoring, all offense team for just one season for that reason.

Oh, and Zetterberg has been a joke defensively this year, he's been about as good as Kessel in his own zone

Is this the HNIC panel ?

Datsyuk's name was mentioned 24 times in the third period.

Nasim Kadri has more points then him so this thread is asinine

Tough to say this...
But I will say this... Pavel brings his A game more often than Fedorov.

Fedorov's had speed/strength/skill to dominate a game, territorially.

Datsyuk's speed is underrated. His backchecking is the best I've ever seen. His stickhandling is the best I've seen. His passing is among the best I've seen....

I'd like to see what Pavel Datsyuk could have done in the 80s and early 90s.

I see a guy like Adam Oates with 1400 points -- Oates was nowhere near the player Datsyuk is.

Does anyone else feel like he's actually improved this year? I mean he's always been so responsible, but he's carrying the offense playing with Abdelkader and still playing as great of a defensive game as he ever has before.

Kadri: 27 points in 29 games
Datsyuk: 30 points in 28 games

Can you count?

No.

Pavel started a bit slow. Then he started heating up.
Then Babcock killed him with the Cleary-Datsyuk-Abdelkader line.

Now he's getting his groove again,

Truth is, at the time of his injury last year (caused by Toews in an overtime game where Datsyuk went into beastmode to win it for Detroit), Datsyuk should have been getting MVP votes

Who discusses points when talking about Datsyuk? What a pointless argument. The guy's two way play is probably some of the best.... ever. Stop jumping on stat websites and start enjoying every second he plays. When he retires, we might not have another player like him for a long long time.
