Very excited about this...

Only thing is, I am hoping he doesn't try to do TOO much.
I really don't think he needs to come in and be some sort of 'savior' for this team...just play his rugged style, be smart about things, and be responsible with the puck and everything will be fine.

This is going to be a huge test for him as he will now be playing with the big boys (literally) and stuff that may have worked for him in the AHL may or may not work for him in the NHL.
He will probably have the jitters (normal for a guy his age showing off his skills on the big stage), so I will give him a few games to get completely settled.

One thing is for sure:
The Lightning need a player with his style BADLY.
The team plays FAR too 'soft', they SCARE NO ONE at the moment...and that is despite having the offensive talent they do.

Maybe watching 22 yr old Gudas take the body will remind guys like Eric Brewer and Keith Aulie that they are supposed to be rugged shut down D-men themselves.

Good luck Radko...will be watching with much anticipation!

All the call ups except Conacher have been a little surprising to what was expected at this time last year. Would have thought Connolly over Killorn, Panik or Palat and Barberio over Gudas.

With a beard like that, it would be an absolute disgrace if we didn't make the playoffs. Think he'd shave it the first day of the playoffs? It'll be back by game 2 anyway.

Game 2? Ha! The beard laughs at that. He could shave it the morning of Game 1 and have it be back at full strength by opening faceoff.

You're probably all well aware of what Radko brings to the table. I've seen him 4 or 5 times play against the Ice Caps in St. John's and I have to say, he is by a landslide, the most notable physical player I have ever seen in the AHL. He's extremely noticeable on the ice for all the right reasons, and shines everytime he plays at Mile One Centre. He is positionally sound and is never out of position after going for a thunderous hit.

Interesting to see how he plays while he is up.

Also, he may have the best beard in the league. Him and Greg Zanon should tilt if they ever get the chance.

See THIS is what I will be looking for as I watch him compete against better competition at the NHL level.

If he makes the adjustments necessary to account for the NHL speed and skill, then he could have a very good NHL career right in front of him.

And even if he is just 22, if he does make that transition, some veteran NHL players he plays with may follow his lead with the style of play necessary to be a consistent winning team.

I don't expect EVERYTHING from this guy in just one game. But he needs to make it very difficult for the coaching staff to send him back down and that starts with his play in his very first game.

Hopefully, this works out well, and another AHL standout D-man, Mark Barberio, gets his chance also.

Congrats to Radko on the call up. I think he'll stick in Tampa. I know he was impressive in training camp and I don't think he'll let this opportunity slip through the cracks. You all know very good defensively, very physical, and has a pretty good cannon of a shot.
Works hard every shift and very focused. Much like Killorn I can't see him giving away his chance.

Boucher on Radko's first game
Quote:
"Well, we thought he played so well that he's playing in our top 6 today. So hopefully he can do the same job he did the last game. We thought he played really good. We always knew he was a threat, like he hit 3 guys and 2 of their guys were taken out. That's him. ...Exactly, (he makes the simple play, not the fancy one) and that's what we want to be honest with you. If you can make the solid easy play consistently, you're a terrific defenseman so hopefully he can keep that up."

Gudas has been our 2nd best Dman since his call-up. I love his physical play and despite that he still manages to remain in sound position most of the time. Probably most impressive is his poise with the puck and first pass. The call-ups on this team are the only reason to watch this team these days

3rd game:

20:03 of ice time, 24 shifts, 2 shots, 6 hits, 3 blocked shots

That's crazy

From boltprospects.com:
Radko Gudas had 2 shots, 6 hits, and 3 blocked shots in 20:03. He's exploded on the scene like a supernova.

Seems like he plays really good
