Oh I remember. That was outstanding

So: Don't forget that Kulda learned the shut-down way from Chris ****in Chelios!

For anyone that wants an update on the Kulda situation:

The reports of 24 year old defenceman Arturs Kulda returning to the Jets are true. Expected back in days.

Kulda, who played 9 games for Jets in 11-12, has obtained his KHL release. Can come back to Jets now without clearing waivers.
These were tweeted March 13th, so he should be back with the team pretty soon.

One thing I've seen pop up here and there on this board is if Kulda is good, why didn't he make the roster last year? You have to remember we had Enstrom, Hainsey, Stuart, Oduya, and Jones all on one way contracts last year. So he was the 6th LHD and on a two-way. He would have to be pretty exceptional to stick with the roster.

The fact that he had a good year in the KHL is the icing on the cake, not the foundation of the cake.

Agreed. Very good point.

Also, let's not forget that players are not static. Development comes into play as well. Once again I will dip into the Kings (95% since this is the team I know the best) but look at an Alec Martinez. Came up for 4 games in 09-10, was completely overwhelmed. Headed back to Manchester, spent around 1 calendar year down there and bam came back to LA a quarter of the way into 10-11 and was a solid responsible 3rd pairing guy. Players develop.

We really need a player of Kulda's type on the roster right now, IMO. A smart safe defenseman that can make the simply plays and play safe. It's what the Jets are missing, particularly in a game like tonight when it seemed like all 3 d pairings were a complete mess in the 3rd period.

I'm really hoping to see him when we play WSH on THURS (my next game live).

I have to agree we need a guy like him. Most if not all Jets fans thought this guy was lost to the KHL forever, because it seemed like he was discouraged our system didn't have room for him.

I have a very strong feeling we're going to make some sort of trade before Kulda gets signed.

edit:

Just checked, we're at 23 roster players currently. 13 forwards, 7 D, 3 goalies. That doesn't include Peluso, Slater, Enstrom, or Redmond. Doesn't include Kulda either.

I imagine Meech gets sent down to make room for Kulda. Plus Montoya is currently not on IR, so I imagine his injury isn't too serious and we'd also be sending Pasquale back down sometime soon.

Because I think they thought that Kulda wasn't 100% ready to be a reliable bottom pairing guy and could use the ice time he would have gotten to develop in St. Johns. I have no doubts about that they maybe have thought that he "wouldn't be good enough" but just wanted to give him more time and go with Jones as the fill-in instead.

But their plan didn't work because Artus left to play in the KHL. They followed his play and when they needed him (like.. now ^^) they called him and he came back.

Makes you wonder if he maybe left the franchise on both sides agreement because he may thought he'd be physical enough to rock the AHL but had some issues on the breakout and other aspects. So he went to the KHL for one season to earn more money and develop what he needed to work on in Europe.

*edit*

great... Montoya on IR. No break for Pavs -.- He needs a game off!

Guess Pavs is getting a boat load more work in the near future.

I was hoping for a day off thursday or friday for him.

depends on what the coaching staff thinks of Pasquale

stoked this is finally happening. Wonder when he gets to draw in and who comes out. Very excite dto see him regardless of what he ends up being. I'd pretty much assumed he was gone/written off so it's like a free asset coming. Very stoked.

also good to see he got a one way. He probably wouldn't have signed a two way, but it also says that management sees him as a player up here instead of the rock. would be great to see him get in this week.

Kulda, shoulda, woulda.

Lets see what he does for a few games before getting excited (or depressed).

Hopefully I get to see him on Thursday - my next live game.

So he signed a one way deal (not surprising in the least)

Now there is a hefty log jam, especially when Enstrom is back (sounds like next week from tweets I read)

Buff
Enstrom
Bogo
Hains
Stu
Clitsome
Postma
Kulda

Meech - I assume he will be sent to St John's

That gives the Jets 8 healthy guys.
I figure clitsome, and probably postma will be in the box.
So do they keep carrying 8 d?

I'm personally operating under zero preconceptions that Kulda will ever turn into a top pairing guy; really do like him as a player though. He doesn't look like much, appears almost awkward at times, but he near always made smart and safe decisions with the puck and that is what is often lacking on the Jets back end at current.

Noel liked having 8D last season, cycling in and out Jones, Clitsome and Flood.
I think Clitsome, Postma and Kulda is a huge upgrade on last seasons cycle haha.

I believe IR stints in the NHL are minimum one week. My question would be: can they be retroactive?

No need to carry extra forwards when some of the ones you dress play 3 mins a night
