Fighting with a visor on

Watching Seabrook get his head handed to him got me thinking. What was Brent supposed to do? Break his hand on Roussel's visor? Slice his hand open on it? Guys without the visor basically just have to take the beating or risk injury. Shouldn't cowards who won't take the helmet off (if he's wearing a visor) be suspended for say......5 games? Is an extra 2 minutes enough?

When Toews fought Thornton he left his helmet/visor on.

IMO if you're going to drop the gloves, take off your helmet.

It doesn't seem like some people realize that fighting is not legal in the game of hockey...

If you have an opportunity to take your lid off, you should. Sometimes you get jumped or are too close and guys start throwin right away, but if you're squaring off for an epic showdown, lose the bucket.

I don't think you have a good example.

Roussel skated to Seabrook, asked him, while wearing his visor, if he wanted to go, Seabrook said yes and got destroyed.

I don't see anything wrong with that.

This. I wouldn't be surprised injuries go down with helmets off. Big reduction in hand injuries.

Bingo. Big difference between asking and acceptance as opposed to just being a **** while wearing your visor.

Not waste his time fighting a 10 MPG player in a 5-0 game?

If you're worried about a player getting hurt it's probably best not to have him fight regardless of the other guy wearing a visor or not.

To be honest I don't think Seabrook stood much of a chance. He got caught with a pretty good punch a nanosecond after obliging him. I don't think he was going to get a punch in after that even if Roussel took his helmet off.

Did Seabrook play after that? Hope he is ok.

I don't see anything bad in wearing visor during fight. You don't drop your gloves to be "fair" or "honorable", but to beat your opponent. Everything wich increases your chances is tolerable IMO..

Drop the visor if you're tough enough to drop the gloves.

I'm not positive, but I think that might go against the 'code'.

Sometimes you don't have a chance to take off your helmet. It really just depends on how the fight starts.

If you voluntarily fight a guy with a visor on then it's your fault.

If he jumps you then your team gets a 4 minutes PP (instigator + instigator with shield) and you do the best you can.

I'm not seeing what the issue is.

Will the penalty even exist once they make visors mandatory(I think it's a matter of when, not if)?

They'll just make instigator into a double minor.

Take your visor off period, it's harmful to both the user and the guy fighting the user. Case in point, I used to wear a visor, I was in a fight, the guy sucker punched me and my visor actually cut my face open before the fight even started.

If you fight without a visor then you could get punched in the eye.

Better a fist hits your eye than a shield, I have a life long lesson of that engraved on my face.

It is really though. Players get a 5 minute penalty for fighting. Any other sport and bans and fines would be flying about.

Only a wuss fights with a visor on. A real man will take it off.

Example of real men.

Can't stand when guys fight with visors.

Edit: I'd post videos of wusses who tend to fight with their visors on, but I'd probably get flagged for trolling since people can't handle the truth.
More example of real men:
