He is better, but Guerin provided exactly what we needed at the time. He only cost us a third round pick and stayed an additional year. Guerin was a bargain and wasn't a rental. Iggy won't be a bargain and is a rental.

I think it ultimately depends on the definition of a "premium" prospect. The first + a good prospect? Sure, that's seems reasonable.

But I don't think any team is going to give up a top-20 (overall) prospect + a 1st without some assurance that Iginla is willing to re-sign.

Ehhhh, I think a top 20 overall prospect is the only thing that gets it done, unless Iginla really forces management's hands, but if its a "good" prospect, there probably has to be a decent roster player coming back

Really?

I mean, just taking the guys in HF's top-20 on teams near or in playoff position:

Vladimir Tarasenko + 1st
Dougie Hamilton + 1st
Mika Zibanejad + 1st
Jaden Schwartz + 1st
Alex Galchenyuk + 1st
Mikael Granlund + 1st
Chris Kreider + 1st
Brendan Smith + 1st
Brandon Gormely + 1st
Morgan Rielly + 1st
Mathew Dumba + 1st

None of those look like reasonable asks for UFA-to-be Iginla.

That's what you meant? I was going under the impression it was a prospect chosen in the top 20 of a draft.

Oh hell no, going by what you meant, that wouldn't happen...ever...

I was going to say..

I just don't know what the poster above means by a "premium" prospect...but maybe that's because, as a Flyers fan, I'm neither looking toward the playoffs nor aware of any "premium" prospects in the system...

I'd move those in red for Iginla.

A premium prospect is the list you gave me, a good prospect is Maatta, Laughton, DSP or someone along those lines...if the Flames are looking for a premium prospect, they might as well forget the 1st coming back...

They'll have to settle for an unleaded prospect, 87 octane.

I don't think any (reasonable) Flames fans are hoping for these type of prospects coming back.

Can't see how anyone sane would disagree with you there. If a younger guy who can do anywhere close to what Iginla can becomes available, that is option A. The one to go after. I wouldn't go so far as to call this only a contingency plan, but it obviously isn't ranking above "Crosby's Neal."

Well, seeing that most clubs are willing to overpay, I think Lombardi and the kings will focus their attention elsewhere.

We can always reunite Iggy with Sutter in the offseason.

Unfortunately I think we are showcasing Toffoli. Iginla better resigns if Toffoli is gone.

Yeah, that thought came to my mind as well, but I think we'll get outbid by the other 3 teams for Iggy, so I'm not too worried.

haha I would like Iginla on the team too and dont want to overpay, but fellow Bruins fans need to stop including garbage pieces like Caron and Sauve...it will take at least one of Spooner, Khokhlachev or Subban...hence why the cautious and conservative Chiarelli will strike out and we will have Pandolfo playing in the top 9 in the playoffs...pretty sad Pandolfo couldnt cut it on the Isles but he is in the top 9 in Boston...awesome

Out of sheer curiousity, what would it take for Iginla to put on a Jets jersey?

I'd do Khoko and Caron at this point.

I hope we don't. Unless DL thinks we need a spark in the dressing room by adding a leader with an unquenched hunger for the cup, there's no reason for the Kings to give up anything of value for Iginla. If anything, we need to add a top-4 guy to the blueline to replace Mitchell, not another forward - especially if we're to give up an exciting prospect like Toffoli.

Of course. We're not trading our captain and franchise player away for a bunch of "B-level" prospects who won't make an impact on our team. If that's the case then we'd rather just hang on to him.

Looking at the Flames' prospect pool, it seems like they already have prospects of that value.

I think any potential Jarome Iginla trade would have to be similar to the type of trade we made with the Colorado Avalanche in 1999 for Theoren Fleury, when we were able to acquire an impact shutdown defenceman (Robyn Regehr) who would play for us for over a decade plus two young roster players.

Only difference this time being is that we would want the young roster player(s) to have a higher upside than Wade Belak and Rene Corbet + a 2013 1st round pick!
