He would have been an improvement over Gus I would imagine.

Talking about TJ Brennan in regards to being a top 4.

Brennan had one good game in his debut. We should pump the breaks about him being a top 4. He couldn't even get defensive minutes in buffalo on a horrible team. He has struggled a ton. Just like ellerby out in la. He has cooled off since his first couple out there

Local kid too. He's an offensive guy who just never really got a shot with Buffalo. I don't know about top 4, but at the very least he's a bottom pairing guy who gives you some kind of offensive threat on the backend. Something this team could use.

Would we even have enough cap room for JayBo if Read was the centerpiece?

If we bought out Briere, yes.

The Bruins need Briere. In the recent games that I've watched of theirs, they need another center with speed and a shot. Their defense can cover his mistakes. Briere and his contract to the B's for a 2nd rounder.

Considering I do think Boston is built for a deep playoff run, I think a 1st might be in order.

Briere + 2013 3rd for 2013 1st and Krug?

I have heard that the B's are balking at a 1st. After losing a center today, they might have to change their mind. WTH, the B's do well with older Flyer retreads-Recchi.

You can also add Dave Poulin and Brian Propp to the mix.

Why would JayBo resign here as UFA now if he chose CGY over Philly last time he was UFA, huh?

Just keep Read, he's one of those guys you can use in every situation.

CGY acquired his rights from FLA and threw a ton of money at him. That's why he signed with them.

Something spun off from a thread on the trade forum:

Quote:
Edler
Schneider

for
Couturier
Coburn
and ______
What's fair value for the final piece? The original idea had VAN sending their 1st + Raymond for our 1st, but I think that's a pretty obvious non-starter.

Our 2nd seems a bit light. Any other ideas?

Is Schneider really worth more than Couts? Or is it more like Coburn + 1/3 of Couts = Edler and then 2/3 of Couts + something else = Schneider?

Well, I hadn't thought about it that way.

Edler >> Coburn
Schneider < Couturier

Something like that. Given his still relatively unproven status and position, I think Schneider holds less value than Couturier (even Canucks fans seems to admit that a "straight" trade would be something like Schneider + a 2nd for Couturier).

Edler, of course, holds more value than Coburn.

Finding a balancing piece is the challenge.

Yeah not giving up Couturier and the 1st. I think Couturier/Coburn/2nd or 3rd would be fair value. I'm still not sure I would do it though. I think people overrate Elder a little bit. I don't think he's number 1 defensemen. If I were to consider this I would wait until draft day to see how other things play out.

His contract only has one more year on it, and the Flyers could easily fit it under the cap once Briere is either traded or bought out.

After 13-14, assuming he played very well, you could resign him to a long term deal at a more friendly cap number. He will only be 30 years old.

I think the final missing piece would be a 2014 1st. Or 2 2nds (2013 + 2014). Or if we trade Briere (and others) and acquire an extra late first this year, that might do.

Don't think they move edler either Not after that nice contract he just got. Very team friendly

Briere's value to a contender like Boston is higher than that.
