Considering we haven't picked a D in the first round with Gillis at the helm, I don't think there's a better team at drafting, signing and developing D right now.

Thing is without 2003 Nashville doesn't have much, really.

I like some of their guys, but no real top pairing guys, even their 1st rounders.

Well I'm not really talking about first rounders. It's not like we draft them in the first round.....

last time we drafted a defenseman in the first round was 2006, Luc Bourdon (RIP) and since then it was forwards

this guy and this guy and maybe diaz?

remember that most teams have plenty of 3rd-5th round picks that make the ahl over 4-5 years, you just havent heard of them. without some real searching, it would be hard

oh, san jose: irwin, demers, vlasic, braun, murray are all current nhlers fully raised in the san jose system. thats ****ing nuts!

holy **** demers and braun were like, 7th and 8th round picks respectively. between those two and irwin they have three GOOD bonifide nhl defencemen for two late round picks and a college signing.

Gillis only got here in 2008 and only oversaw the 1st round in that draft. The guys you're mentioning were mostly drafted before then. Demers is really the only one that was drafted in 08 and he's comparable to Tanev in terms of impact.

matt irwin was a college signing that has been absolutely fantastic for them this year, and picking a guy from 2007 is perfectly fair - success before gillis shouldn't be invalidated when it's still recent

dont get me wrong, i'm really high on all of our defensive prospects - hell, i'm one of the few people left that thinks connauton has even a minor NHL career - but i still think san jose's track record in recent history w/defencemen is superior to vancouver's

edit: i dont think i would have said this three weeks ago - but i've been watching a lot more hockey of various teams and you'd be surprised how many of them have a chris tanev on their third pairing. solid low-competition-killing 22-23 year old defencemen seem to grow on trees or something

edit2: (thats obviously exaggerated for comedic effect)

matt irwin would be a super duper fan favourite here, grew up in victoria, very understated game. wish gillis had got him

Anyway, Price looking solid all around in this game. Really pleased with his play. He'll be getting 23-24 minutes a game very quickly if he keeps this up.

He has been the best D on the Wolves for a while now. Very good in all situations.

They break out just like the Canucks?

That's not a good thing.

I like how Price looks jumping into the rush.

2nd unit is much better than the first, at least they can setup and get the zone. Don't know why Jensen is not on that unit.

Miller-Schroeder-Jensen out there, if I'm seeing this right? Numbers are kinda hard to make out at times.

I don't know yet but Jeremy sure seems to be worth the price thus far.
