He's going back to Windsor next season even after that stint, no?

Gotta feel bad for this kid. I remember in interviews he was really aiming to up his +/-, not that it means all that much given context, but that was what he wanted to focus on. He wanted, iirc, to have his +/- somewhere around +20. Finished -22. Feels bad man.

-23, to be exact.

Hope that doesn't weigh too hard on him. +/- isn't really a telling stat, but he wanted to improve on it. Definitely feel bad for him on that.

It's rare you find a kid like him who really prides himself on defensive responsibility. He even has the ability to be an offensive guy, he just chooses/gets put into the role of a defensive shut down dude. Even got slotted in on D a few times, iirc.

I think the fact that he's being given a shot to play with the 'dogs right after turning 19 will help his confidence. He was in a tough situation in Windsor this year.

Vail is one of the best defensive forwards in the CHL regardless of +/-.

If he feels bad, he just needs to look at the rest of his team's roster and their +/-

Windsor played some brutal hockey in their zone this season.

I watched Vail a number of times - including a game against Sarnia, in which his line dominated Galchenyuk's line. Vail has potential written all over him. I'm really happy that they are boosting up his morale and confidence by giving him a shot with the Bulldogs.

Don't you have to be over 20 to play in the AHL?

Habs are giving this kid a nice confidence boost. He'll learn a lot in Hamilton even if he doesn't play a lot.

Yeah.....I thought he actually started the season off well offensively too....but then slowed down. He'll work hard and hopefully develop with more support.

I'm guessing that the Habs will sign him to a pro contract this summer, especially if they see flashes of his projected future during his gig in Hamilton.

Excellent news. Since he isnt one of the high radar prospects he can take all the time he needs in Hamilton and become a shutdown center.

More than a few times. He was literally top pairing D for a few weeks.

Vail was often paired with Nick Ebert as the teamís top tandem.

After spending 10 of the last 11 games filling in on defence, the 18-year-old Vail will gladly make the move back to forward tonight when the Spitfires face the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at the WFCU Centre
