A couple of defensemen I'd like Nonis to go after are Giordano and Daley. If the Flames decide to blow it up, Gio could become available. Both are solid two-way local boys who are signed long term and would fit in nicely with the Leafs.

Does anybody know if we receive a 4th or 6th from anh this year from the Lupul deal?

Here is the description from Wikipedia

Toronto will receive a fourth-round pick if Joffrey Lupul is on the roster for less than 40 games in the 201213 season with the club. If he plays 40 or more, Toronto will receive a sixth-round pick.[66]

Lupul won't be in the line up for more than 40 but I'm not sure if the IR counts as being on the roster.

I think if you asked both franchises and managment for both teams they would suggest it would certainly take an overpayment and none are on the block or being considered as options to move.

Both Gio and Daley would be fantastic additions to any team.

Liles to Detroit or Carolina makes some sense, right? It would clear a roster spot on D, get that contract off the books, and get a pick n return.

Pretty sure Grabo, Liles, and Komi will be moved, question is will there be anything bigger as in Kessel, Kule, or even Orr? Almost anyone is in play with the exception of Kadri, Lupul, JVR, Frattin, and our better prospects.

I'm hoping we land Perry, but something tells me Anaheim is doing too well to alter team chemistry this year.

I think a top4 defenseman is much bigger priority than a centre. We are good at scoring goals, but bad at defending.

Our goals against is high because the right side of our D is so weak and our forward still have trouble playing below the goal/cycle game. To many of our offensive players play best in a transition off the rush game.

Nonis is aware of this and that is why Dreger came out his tweet a few days ago.

Only if Chris Stewart played on Colorado. He's in St.Louis. Been there couple seasons. Propose realistic or look up things before you do

Yeah both long shots, I guess I'm just sick of discussing the usual suspects like Morris, Robidas, etc. Personally I hope Nonis goes for a player in his late 20's, not a declining 35 year old.

The word is Nonis is offering two defenseman and a forward to get a top 4 defenseman. I wonder if it's a package consisting of Gunnarsson, Kostka/Holzer and Kulemin. It seems like Caryle's favourites are Phaneuf, Fraser and Franson. Calling up Gardiner is most likely contingent on moving out two defensemen, hopefully leaving:

Top 4 acquisition - Phaneuf
Fraser - Franson
Liles - Gardiner
Holzer

No worries, it happens.

Frankly, I'd think hard about Stewart plus a 1st for Kessel. But, I think Stewart is on the way out because they can't re-sign everyone and he might be the odd man out. So bringing in a Kessel migt not jive for their cap plans.

My guess is its close.

Nice observation. I hadn't noticed how many players St. Louis have to re-sign, and the majority are in-line for big raises. Blues fans will tell you that they'll have no trouble bringing everyone back (and I expect one to chime in within 10 minutes), but considering they are a budget team, they'll have some really tough decisions to make.

Pietrangelo
Shattenkirk
Berglund
Stewart
Cole
Allen

That's potentially 15 million in raises, which would put them around 55 million for 18 players. That's a pretty good situation to be in for most teams, the question is will the Blues ownership be willing to spend close to the cap.

Exactly..... AP, Stewart can go north of 5m, 3-5 for shattenkirk and Berglund....

The only way I see them squeezing everyone in is if there is a collective agreement to take hometown discounts. Shattenkirk deserves 4 - 6 million, no doubt about it. He's a fantastic defenseman. Stewart and Berglund should also get in the same range, probably at the lower end. Pietrangelo will basically get whatever he wants, he makes the Blues tick from the back end. Should be interesting to watch it all unfold within the next 6 months.
