One poster says it could guarantee a face of the franchise forward. Another poster says it will never guarantee that.

Unfortunatly for every Crosby you get there are more Alexande Daigles or Yashins. Ask the Sens how that worked out.

Agreed look at the 2003 (considered one of the best ever) draft even some of that top 10 has never lived up to potential.

Yep and Benoit Puoliot another top 5 I believe that has failed miserably

I think we all realize the draft is an imperfect art at best. There is no sure thing. For every Crosby there are a couple of Daigles or Pickards. But the point is well taken that your chances of a high quality player being available at 1-6 are SIGNIFICANTLY higher than at 12-20.
Sure, we could all cite guys picked last day of the draft that turned into great players, too. I'm just saying, this team really only had ONE shot at the very top level pick and has never drafted an stable dynamic forward (notice I said STABLE).

Yes very true. I think part of the Rads problem was his coach Roy was a headcase also and breeds them IMHO.

I actually think Gaustad is a perfect 4th liner for us. Worth a 1st? Debatable. But I'm not pissed about that.

I'm thinking Poile/Trotz are wanting Seth Jones. Our D would up to legendary status in the near future with that.

Since when is a 4th liner worth a 1st? 4th liners get picked up as UFA:s or dealt for 3rd-5th round picks.

If the Preds ended up drafting Seth Jones, my head would explode! He's obviously a ridiculously talented kid that would be a great addition to any team, but with MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov and Monahan up there too we cannot miss a chance to add some real offensive talent.

Guastad is a specialist that can also play as a 3rd line checking role. He's big, kills penalties and wins face-offs. The things he does well, he does as well as anyone.

Yeah, kind of a catch-22. Jones would be the stud, for sure pick but in our situation you want to think offense offense offense. Hard for me to be mad either way if we are in that spot. However, as much as the Preds are struggling, I don't forsee the #1 overall pick so we probably won't have a shot at Jones anyways.

If by some miracle we actually get a top 5 pick, I want us to have the #3 pick. That way we wouldn't be tempted to take Jones with the #1 pick or at #2 if he didn't go first.

Radulov had a reputation as a prima donna before the draft.

I guess it depends on how Poile wants to go out. Maybe he thinks his legacy is better served trying to get Weber another great defender to put together the best pairing in the league, again. I could see it.

Play to win or don't play. If you get beat, it happens ... but laying down is unacceptable.

This whole "tank" mentality that has taken over this board is sickening. Look at what that has gotten Edmonton. A losing mentality can trickle into next season and pretty soon you are forgetting how to even win.

a mindset on a message board has no effect on the team's play. dont be silly. we all (for the most part) have been preds fans a long time. we can wish whatever we want but in the end, we all want this franchise to be great. we arent saying tank just to lose... some feel thats the best option going forward citing our horrible drafting resume with forwards and the fact no free agents will sign here. its a legit out to finally having game-breaking talent. lets not try to create divide among our fanbase. i know we all love this team and all want to see us succeed. we all have good intentions, man. at least, i think.

How many YEARS are you willing to have the team suck for early draft picks? Four sub-70 point seasons under four coaches? That's what Pittsburgh did.

So the six years of Oilers level suck to keep getting early draft picks would be fine? The decade plus of struggling we've seen from Columbus and Atlanta/Winnipeg?

That's horrible management. There's no reason it should take 6 years or a decade or more.
