Top 10 For 2014 Calder (Excluding 2013 Draftees)

So as the title says, who do people think are the best candidates for the 2014 Calder if we don't include this year's draft class? Consider things such as playing opportunity and linemates as well as success in various leagues this year.

not including 2013 picks? yikes...

rielly, spooner, bjugstad, morin, toffoli, vatanen, cant even think of many more other than the 2013 picks that might play and make an impact

For Detroit, Jarnkrok if management is smart enough to let him play.

Filip Forsberg probably has a good shot if he get's to play with Ovechkin and Backstrom, maybe even if he plays with MacKinnon or Barkov

Kuznetsov IMO has a better chance of winning in 2015 since he probably doesn't come over until spring 2014 at the earliest.

Kuznetsov isn't going to probably play many if any regular season games. The max amount would be 20 if the KHL season ends before the Olympics, because last time they didn't, but that was because of them being so far away... and of course Traktor not making playoffs.

Anyways Forsberg is likely to play this season and get some experience in without taking away his rookie status.

Rielly if he makes it (skill-wise he would, just not sure if they want him up or not).

Other than Rielly, Leafs should have no notables other than potential bottom 6/bottom pairing guys.

Baertschi is a decent bet. I think he'll actually get decent icetime next season, instead of a few games on the 3rd/4th line.

Shane Prince or Mark Stone are the only candidates I can see from Ottawa.

I could see Danny Kristo as an option for the Habs.

I don't see it at all. Tinordi would be the Habs best bet, but defensive defensemen rarely get any Calder recognition.

Vladimir Tarasenko
Mikhail Grigorenko
Tyler Johnson
Mikael Granlund
Nick Bjugstad
Ryan Strome
Mark Schiefele
Ryan Spooner
Ryan Murray
Sven Baertschi
Gustav Nyquist
Peter Holland
Hampus Lindholm
Jacob Markstrom
Jake Allen

That's who I see being in the running, assuming guys like Nyquist and Baertschi don't become ineligible by playing more games this season

Tarasenko will have too many games played by next year (limit is 25) so is not eligible. Holland and Märkström have also played in the nhl for two seasons so they are not eligible

Nicklas Jensen if he makes the team should also be thrown into the conversation.

I thought Tarasenko was out for the season for some reason

Holland is still eligible because one of the seasons he played less than six games (a player has to have at least two seasons where they appear in six or more games to be ineligible), but you're right about Markstrom

I think Columbus will have Ryan Murray and possibly Boone Jenner.
