Ah well, either way, I'm still taking my brother's Samsonov jersey and slapping the Canadiens logo right on the front

As long as neither of them are wearing numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 10, 12, 16 or 19 I really don't care!!!

So I guess we can rule out Rejean Houle as a possible jersey retirement.

.... which will mean that Samsonov and Plekanec can have a fight (or a game of paper, scissors, stone) to decided who gets their old number back. Ladies and Gentlemen, place your bets.

That wouldn't be too hard. All he would have to do is skate down the ice with both hands on his stick!!! Zednik was the biggest overrated player on the team IMO, Johnson will be a welcome change.

It's cool for the ones that owned a Zednik jersey, they can take the name patch out and get a Johnson one

Grabovski gets #18, although some of these numbers don't make sens, i.e. Urquhart wearing #16 and Bonneau wearing #44.

Funny - my first thoughts were of Pete Mahovlich, Reggie Houle and Claude Provost - I even had flashes of Kjell Dahlin, Paul Dipietro, Haller, and Zubrus

O'Byrne and someone else are wearing #2

Its not their permanent numbers, just for rookie camp.

Prospects numbers are not right. Sometimes, the number showed is the one with the habs, sometimes it's their Bulldogs number or their junior team number...

I'm keeping a record for every habs player number/contract status, etc., prospect and pro players.

For the rookies and newcomers:

3 O'Byrne
15 Samsonov
20 Johnson
28 Chipchura
29 D'Agostini
30 Lacasse
31 Heino-Lindberg
31 Price
36 Wyman
40 Lapierre
41 Halak
45 Locke
46 A. Kostitsyn
47 S. Kostitsyn
48 Lambert
53 Urquhart
54 White
55 Gleed
59 Korpikari
61 Bonneau
62 Milroy
63 Lemieux
64 Côté
67 Benoit
68 Mikus
70 Stewart
72 Carle
78 Aubin
80 Dulac-Lemelin
83 Archer
84 Latendresse
86 Ferland
87 Sanford

That's what I got for now.

It's just sad that players like Côté (#64) and Ferland (#86) can't change their numbers once they get to play in the NHL. Ryder's 73 is okay, but thank god Higgins switched for 21 instead of 88.

It's not always 'just a number'. It's a statement, it implies something (look at me, I'm awesome). In my opinion anyway, I don't like to see certain players wear numbers usually reserved for superstars. I like the idea of not allowing players to wear high numbers like the Sens did.

Samsonov will wear #15, Johnson #20

Call me old fashioned but I prefer hockey players wearing hockey players jersey numbers. Teams should try the Ottawa Senators' Pierre Gauthier rule to only wear jersey # below 39.

I am not sure about this. I just can't imagine Wayne Gretzky not wearing #99, Mario Lemieux not wearing #66 or Eric Lindros not wearing #88 . Call me old fashioned but I prefer hockey players chosing whatever number they want, and then making the number look good by playing good.

Not sure why you put Eric Lindros next to The Great One and SUper Mario...

But I get your point
