Yeah I mean I wouldn't argue against that, certainly seems like a decent idea.

Although one thing that would be good on the Rangers, when I mention a guy like Vermette or some of those 3rd line examples from the recent cup teams, is that these are guys that the coaches trust in important situations and with pretty good minutes. This means Callahan, Nash, and Richards don't have to face the pressure of all situations, as we've seen from guys like Vermette, Stoll, Bolland, yes they can kill a penalty, but they can also win a key faceoff and score a game winning goal - whearas a Darrol Powe might be a solid PKer but the coach isn't trusting him with big minutes and he probably won't chip in much else.

Again - it would be really tough to trade Gaborik. When the Boston Bruins added Chris Kelly at the deadline, it was for a 2nd round pick, not a superstar scorer. I think to make the money work the dealt away Blake Wheeler for Rich Peverly, and again, that's how the put together a really solid 3rd line that continues to be big for them.

You don't really want to part with a Gaborik for these kinds of guys...but I'd say better him than any of the youth, and decent proven utility guys usually have a $3-4 million price tag, not the price tag associated with Halpern/Powe/Pyatt...

Biron (1,300,000)

This puts us about 2.5M over the cap, but there could be some trades (IE Boyle,Pyatt) that could help get to the cap. Unless people think 4M for Mcdonagh, 3M for Stepan, and 2.5M for Hags are too low? I figured Mcdonagh would get the longer term contract, but if not he might be around what PK Subban got, and I think stepan and Hags are about right.
I think those numbers for Hagelin and Stepan seem right. I hope Sauer can come back

so see we dont HAVE to move Gaborik next year to ice a better team. It doesn't even have to be Horton. Heck, it could be 2 guys making 2.5M each instead. either way we dont HAVE to move Gaborik to add some depth, resign our RFAs and still fit under the cap like alot of people believe

Look, Sather took a gamble trading away depth and futures for another elite talent to go with Gaborik and Richards (well, supposedly). So far, the experiment had failed. Trading Gaborik for more depth and cap space, although counterproductive, may be the best move Sather can make to compete in the future, and arguably, right now too.

I disagree.. We could still add depth, resign our RFAs and keep Gaborik next year.. I want to see a full year of what these three can do together when not struggling for various reasons.

You absolutely do not HAVE to trade Gaborik. You are right about that.

I'm just saying, if they were to move him, I think it makes sense to move him for the type of guys I'm mentioning rather than trying to get youth or picks or prospects. We've seen every team that has playoff success have these types of guys and right now the Rangers don't have a single one.

Yeah, I agree with that. I dont want Picks/prospects. I want guys who can help win NOW (IE this year/next year)

Yeah, it's a tough position to be in. And again, a team who is trading for Gaborik is also a playoff team in need of scoring, which is why I would think team like the Coyotes, Blues, or Predators would be the best type of fit - teams full of utility guys in need of a scorer, but it won't net an "exciting" return.

Although I bet something interesting could be done with the Sharks, who are basically the West version of the Rangers right now as far as underperforming goes...

I couldn't think of anyone not named Coutoure or Pavelski that I'd be interested in return though.

And now, the Blueshirts are seeking to move Gaborik again ... this time out of town by the April 3 trade deadline. It’s going to be a tough sale at $7.5 million on the cap through next season, even tougher because the Rangers need value in return for No. 10, who has provided management with a list of 10 teams to which he cannot be dealt under terms of his no-trade clause.

The article has a really sceptic opinionof Torts I'd say. And rightfully so, moving Gaborik to the left is beyond stupid at this point. It was worth trying, but it failed.

Gaborik and a third for Franzen, Tatar and a 1st rounder
Detroit will find the better player in the draft regardless and Franzens contract s not as bad as it initially looks according to the recapture calculator.

Brooks confirmed what Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday regarding Gaborik's 10 team NTC list.

The cap will be 64.3 mil. What you have here is a total of 68,053,501. That's 3,753,501 over the cap. You have no spare forwards or defensemen and you need to leave at least 500k for injury replacements.

Trade Boyle and Pyatt? Pyatt isn't included in your numbers, and if you trade Boyle, you have to replace him. You aren't even close to getting under the cap. The only thing you've proven is that you fail at basic math lol.

I'd take that deal, i know Wings fans use to complain that he float around a lot during the regular season but he use to lit it up when it actually matters.

Or maybe I don't, but it seems like a solid deal, add Boyle and Tootoo to it and I'm in for 100%.

I love how people here say Carter and Richards won LA the Stanley Cup. I forgot this sport's like basketball where 2 guys wins championships. Guys named Quick and Kopitar and Doughty had nothing to do with it though right?

Still don't understand the, "Nash was a mistake!" crap people are crying about. You can fix depth issues easily through trade, FA and most of all through the farm very cheaply. You absolutely cannot do the same thing with elite offensive forwards without paying big. They got Nash at a steal and people are crying like they gave up a future star center or power forward. Holy crap, it blows my mind the same Dubinsky and Anisimov who were rotating whipping boys are being held on a golden pedestal. The romanticizing is unbearable. Get over it.

Gaborik is playing like ****.
Richards is playing like ****.
Henrik is playing average.
The D has been hurt and playing average.

This team is nothing like last years in every conceivable way, but somehow it was all the Nash trade. However without Nash this team is probably dead last right now.

Prust was the biggest mistake of last season and that was as much Prust as Sather.

i want to trade for Torres, perfect addition of toughness and little bit of offense in bottom 6.. then i want to recall palmieri for bottom 6..adds size, toughness and can provide little bit of offense..

Nash-Richards-Callahan
Hags-Step-Gabs
Torres-Miller-Palmieri
Powe-Boyle-Haley

if kreider is ready..

Nash-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Step-Gabs
Hags-Miller-Palmieri

This team needs a shake-up. They need to find an identity again. Hard-working? Dump and chase? Possession?

With Torts here, I would doubt it will be possession. Gaborik should be moved. Boyle should be too. This has to be used to make a point that this is totally unacceptable.

Get good young pieces back and move on. The Islanders are young and hard-working. The Rangers bottom-6 creates no chances or energy from their shifts. The top-6 has no one that is even willing to go to the net outside of Nash and Callahan.

Gonna end up restructuring the team. The way this goes, with what we have now, we need a new identity.

brilliant. on all points.

one other thing... excuse or not, the turnover of 6 F had a significant impact when you factor in the shortened season. When people say "other teams are in the same boat" that's BS. Other teams didn't turnover 50% of their forward corps without a camp, preseason....

Granted, turning over that many players in a regular season is never good.
