Even with those couple injuries we shouldn't be playing the way we are, yes our GM has brought in terrible depth players but I still expect us to win games based on a healthy D, good goaltending and out first line.
I think this is the first time I've agreed with N.H.F. in recent memory. People are making a lot of excuses for this team right now, and that we're injured is one of them. Sure, losing most of your second line is gonna sting, but as mentioned the entire rest of the team is healthy, and we shouldn't be spiraling out of control and playing with so little confidence just because we're missing Kesler.

This is as mentally weak as I've seen this team since that 8-game losing streak back in 2008, which Burrows ended by scoring on Carolina. Remember him (trying to) break his stick on his knee? We really need something to bring this team together. The Canucks need an identity again. We've lost ours.

This team hasn't really been the same since winning that game against Boston in the middle of last season. It deflated us to get "revenge" on them. All the passion evaporated.

I agree that this shouldnt be used as the "end all, be all excuse" but we arent an incredibly deep team (in terms of top 6 talent) and taking two guys out who were supposed to do the heavy lifting to compensate for the missing top 6 player.

A few of these things needed to happen for us to be able to play through these injuries successfully imo.

- Raymond needed to become a consistent force, someone who could anchor that second line.
- Higgins really needed to step up, he has played ok, but ok isnt good enough when you have key players injured
-Kassian needed to make the jump into being a consistent force
-Lapierre needed to make to the jump to being a good third line centre option and handle Malhotra-like zone starts
-Schroeder needed to fill a scoring role and be a main point of secondary scoring.

***Our defense needed to compensate for the dip in offense that was inevitable and them combined with our goalies needed keep the goal totals very low for the other teams*** (I would argue that they are contributing fine offensively, but oftentimes it feels at the expense of their defensive play)

A lot of these things may of been unrealistic to accomplish, but most were necessary if we expected to be among the elite with Kesler and Booth (someone also way underperforming) injured. We really needed players to step up and instead we are seeing players underperform, or at best, meeting expectations which isnt enough in our current situation. The injury to Kesler has been really eye opening, because I expected some players to step up, that's what good depth does.

That'd be the NHL board, wouldn't it?

I'd imagine Trades and Rumours would be Surrey.

I'm guessing that Booth will be put on IR once his MRI is done today. That doesn't give them much time to call someone up. If Kassian can't play, they might be stuck with Ballard or Barker on the 4th line.

Leftwinglock has Luongo as the probable starter, would have thought Schnieder would have gotten the nod.

He might be out for a bit too depending on how severe this back injury is.

I know, I kept him separate because I believe his injury is more of a short term one. His back could be a reason why his play has suffered this year (apart from his hot start)

My best guess would be Alberts moves to the fourth line if we can't get a callup in time, which would mean either Ballard or Barker would be in on the third pair.

interesting, not that I think Luongo has been necessarily, but hasn't been good enough to keep the net imo. This would be a real vote of confidence for him if he gets the nod considering he is is coming off starting the last two with average/below average efforts.

This is an exciting time. Drama everywhere.

Canucks cannot be feeling very good about themselves right now. This usually leads to a minimal effort on the ice. If you watch Calgary on a night where Canucks win, the Flames try harder with every reversal. If they lose by four, at the end of the game they are playing flat out. Not every time, of course, but enough to be trending. Canucks do not do this. Really, the Canucks do not like to get thier uniforms dirty and do the actual grunt work it takes to win some games. Again, a broad generalization, but it happens enough to be noticeable. Is this caused by coaching? Leadership? Extra naps?

Canucks won't win this game because they don't really want to. Wild desire it more.

Not really. We have a back to back tonight and tomorrow so I figure both goalies will see action. Does it really matter who starts what game?

no it doesnt, theyre just going with the whichever goalie is hot at the time approach so I thought it would be time for a switch up, forgot about the back to back, thanks for reminding me. My point is moot then, they'll probably just roll with whatever goalie plays better out of these two games/

This is the night Minnesota takes the division lead for good.
And the start of the Canucks final plunge out of the playoffs.
Time for a rebuild.
3=2 Wild

Seriously?

WTF... turn of the TV and pick up your Blackhawks jersey.

I'm about to leave these boards with knee-jerk statements like this?

Holy *** Hell.

Yay, a GDT based on a band I like! And a great song to boot! Here's my addition and probably one of the more Canadian songs made too:

Problem is, in this shortened season - any kind of losing streak at this time might be fatal. Can happen to even a "good team". And like it or not, this team looks like it's in the middle of one. With the way the standings look, it might be only the division winner of the NW that makes it into the top eight.

While a 'rebuild' is an extreme option - I do think it might be time for a major roster shakeup.

People need to understand there is a difference between a retool and a rebuild.

A rebuild happens over the course of 3-4 seasons, a retool is what the Flyers did an offseason or two ago.

This team right now, doesn't need a rebuild. They aren't completely broken.

Call it what you like - clearly something major needs to happen. Team isn't responding - jeebus if you're going to lose games, at least go down fighting (and I obviously don't mean fisticuffs).

It's trending all over with the uneducated fans right now. Pretty embarrassing to be honest. The fans in this market are extremely fickle. I agree there's some moves that need to be made, but anyone thinking it needs a complete overhaul is out to lunch. I hope Gillis won't be making a knee jerk reactions. Its a short and weird season.
