One day, Grabovski will play for a team whose coach doesn't misuse him and people will realize how insanely good he is.
Grabovski is closer to a healthy Kesler than people seem to realize. He gets minimal power play time, starts in the defensive zone a ton, and lines up against elite players. Despite this, he scores even strength points faster than Bozak (who plays sheltered minute with Kessel).
Nothing against DD, a fine player, but Grabovski is a two-way force with great hands.
Not even, Grabo best season is 58 pts while DD best season is 60 pts. DD is outproducing him this season as well.
DD looks lost without Pacioretty.
Grabovski was overpaid from Day 1, so I would definitely take Desharnais..but the year Grabo was signed...guys like David Jones got 4M, so it was very likely that Grabovski would have gotten 5.5M as a UFA and the Leafs would have the WORST center depth in the league by a mile.
Grabovski is most likely trade bait right now they way Carlyle is using him. He's playing ~15 mins as a checker right now.
I think Nashville is a team that could use a guy like Grabovski. Good defensively and a 55 point center and unlike the Kostitsyn's...he's not lazy.
I would take DD if they both had the same salary. He's just more consistent, IMHO. Has better vision. And I don't really see the supposed defensive value in Grabovski. It's hard for Habs fans, though, because Grabovski was such a prima donna in our org, and it's hard to get over that history with him. Desharnais definitely doesn't bring any defensive value, however, so if you really believed in Grabovski on that side of things, I could see taking him.
