I'd respect him a lot more if he'd retire, it's time.. Too bad we can't go back to the beginning of the season and give the C to Weiss.. I feel things may have been a bit different.

Weiss was already injured before the season started, captain or no captain..

His floating this season would have been a real example for the kids.. Not..

Ya, he started floating once Jovo was named captain.. He checked out once that happened IMO

You make Weiss sound like a 8yo kid who didn't get the fancy toy that all the other kids have.

If that's how you (want to) see it, the team is waaaaay better off without him. We don't need sore losers.

And as I've said, that shows every reason he SHOULDN'T be captain.

"I wanna be captain. Hmph! Stupid Panturds. I'm just not gonna play."

Doubt that's what happened.

The guy stuck it out for years here, never floated once, then lost the C which should've been his to the worst player on our team.. It was a slap in the face and yea you're right, he shouldn't have let that affect him - if it did... But you can't tell me he ever floated before this season, he was one of our hardest working forwards for years here.

He floated because he was injured, the captaincy thing had nothing to do with it.

Weiss had his chances to claim the throne for almost two years when the team was without a captain, and IMO the reason why Jovo wasn't named captain last year was because Weiss was hesitating on to be or not to be, and Jovo/Dineen/Tallon respected that to a point where this team just couldn't go on any longer without a true captain.

If Weiss really wanted to become the captain, it would have happened during the 2011 offseason.

Doubt that has happened as well.

Weiss is a solid fiercely loyal two way forward anyone would want on their team. None of that makes you a captain. Trust a 3x captain coach in knowing who should wear a C.

Have to continue to believe Jovo is done.

I'm going to guess Campbell as a interim captain, so Dineen can see during the rest of the season if he's worth it.

If he does retire then I think we just go back to using 3 A's, like last season.

Why would Jovo retire unless it's due to injury so he gets paid? 8 million is a lot to leave on the table for the next 2 years.

Sad to see but definitely a good thing for this franchise.

How does this impact our cap number?

This frees up a good amount of money, right?

Whatever bottom pairing guy we get to replace him, I sure hope he's physical and can skate.

If I interpreted the new CBA right, the +35 rule has stayed unchanged, so Jovo's caphit of $4,125,000 will stay until his contract runs out in 2015, but no actual money is paid to him. Jovo was to be paid $8,250,000 during the last 2 years of his contract.

So his caphit will count towards the cap for the next 2 years but that money isn't actually spent.

Do we still have to actually spend to the cap floor? Or did our owners just get a huge break?

So divide that UNSPENT $8,250,000 up on:

1) A better jumbotron for the home crowd
2) Killing off Club Red FOREVER!
3) buying a small jet for the team for all the added travel we have next year with the re-alignment plan.

It's like Thomas this year when he took a year off, his caphit has count towards Bruins cap but he hasn't been paid, hence why Boston got rid of him for nothing (so that they can spend closer to the cap upper limit and have more room if they want to make TDL moves) and Islanders have that 5 million of pure air so that they're above the floor if they trade away the likes of Visnovsky and Streit at the TDL.

So yes, if Jovo retires his caphit counts towards the floor while no money is actually paid to him.

Damn, Viner and Co. must be thrilled. It will be interesting to see if they use that money or if it will be pocketed like the Bure money.
