We'll be the most hated team in the league with Kaleta and Komarov.

I, for one, think Kaleta is an agitator that can actually play. I won't mind him but we don't have the spot for him.

I meant 15 million in raises. Probably about 25 in salary and/or cap hit.

It won't be easy to keep all their core players.

I think a guy like Perron is attainable.

I'd love Perron... I've been advocating it for a whole. He would be perfect with Kadri.

Lupul-Kadri-Perron. Damn, that's a lot of skill

You gotta figure just as highly as we think of him, the Blues are on that gravy train as well. I really don't think they're going to mess with their core unless its an overpayment.

Mikhail Grabvoski (Center)
29 Years old January 31st 1984
5'11' 180 Pounds
2004 NHL Draft 5th Round 150th Overall

5 years $27'500'000 at $5'500'000/Season
From 2012/2013 - 2016/2017

2008-09 Toronto Maple Leafs NHL 78 20 28 48
2009-10 Toronto Maple Leafs NHL 59 10 25 35
2010-11 Toronto Maple Leafs NHL 81 29 29 58
2011-12 Toronto Maple Leafs NHL 74 23 28 51
2012-13 Toronto Maple Leafs NHL 29 6 5 11

Assets: Is a creative playmaker and offensive forward. Has vastly improved the way in which he uses space and his linemates. Displays a feisty disposition, excellent skating skills, and a solid work ethic on most nights.

Flaws: Lacks ideal size and defensive acumen. Overhandles the puck on occasion, and can fall into backchecking funks, opting for the easy way out from time to time. Injuries and a lack of discipline can also be factors here.

Career Potential: Skilled but inconsistent offensive center.

Brad Richards (Center)
32 Years old May 2nd 1980
6'01'' 200 Pounds
1998 NHL Draft 3rd Round 64th Overall

9 years $60'000'000 at $6'666'667/Season
From 2011/2012 - 2019/2020

2009-10 Dallas Stars NHL 80 24 67 91
2010-11 Dallas Stars NHL 72 28 49 77
2011-12 New York Rangers NHL 82 25 41 66
2012-13 New York Rangers NHL 25 4 11 15

Assets: Has incredible imagination with the puck and excellent playmaking ability. Has good anticipation and functions expertly during pressure situations. Likes to shoot the puck often when playing the point on the power play. Is a leader by example.

Flaws: Isn't big or physical, so he can wear down against bigger opposing centers. Also, he can be a bit too soft at times. His defensive game has regressed a little bit over time. Has never been a particularly swift skater or very vocal leader, either.

Career Potential: Savvy veteran scoring center.

Andrej Sustr, a 6'8''-6'9'' 22 year old mobile puck moving defenseman is on the FA market now.

I wonder if the Leafs have any interest in him

Could be an interesting project for whoever signs him

He went to the Pittsburgh, and ranger camps, I'd assume he's got his eyes set on one of those teams or at least a u.s market.

Well I am hoping for some news or something for a trade but at the same time i don't expect anything because it seems GM's are stubborn.

Pietrangelo
Shattenkirk
Berglund
Stewart
Cole
Allen

That's potentially 15 million in raises, which would put them around 55 million for 18 players. That's a pretty good situation to be in for most teams, the question is will the Blues ownership be willing to spend close to the cap.
A little later than 10 minutes This really isn't as difficult for the Blues as a lot of people think it is going to be.

Pietrangelo @ $6.25m (these are cap hits)
Shattenkirk @ $4.75m
Berglund @ $3.8m (Perron contract)
Stewart @ $4.25m
Cole @ $1.75m (he hasn't shown enough for more yet)
Russell @ $1.5m
Allen @ $1.25m
Lehterä @ $2.25m

If Armstrong does his usual type of contracts, then our salary bill would be in the range of $54.5m with only the a partner for Pietrangelo to add to complete the 23 man roster. We spent $55m last season.

Ultimately, a winger is going to be traded though; we are going to have to make space for Jaškin on the roster. Whether we do that in the offseason, next trade deadline or the summer of 2014 is the question though.

He might be, but we'd need a partner for Pietrangelo coming back.

If St.Louis dropped out and missed the playoffs, that lost playoff revenue could have an impact on their offseason imo... Or possibly even a early exit with minimal home games.

Morning Gents.

Leafs to make another small deal with Chicago?

TORONTO RUMOR

I'm told the Leafs had two scouts trailing the Ice Hogs this weekend at games in both Rockford and Chicago. This is a follow-on to rumors of Pierre Gauthier and Ryan Stewart scouting the Leafs a few weeks ago.
From the HB Hawks blogger.

Could be interesting.

Pirri, Morin, Dylan Olsen, Kyle Beach... Pirri is the most appealing out of the lot.

Grabovski and Brandon Pirri as the centerpieces?

Makes some sense I suppose. Just checked and Pirri is from Toronto too (not that it matters much I guess).

Probably another crappy minor league deal with two nobodies exchanged. Beach would be interesting, but he's shown his upside is pretty limited. I would love to get Pirri, but I doubt it will be that big of a trade. Maybe they are looking at Grabovski now that Sharp is out for most of the season? Leafs would have to retain some salary though, which could hurt long term.

I use to think Connnolly to the Hawks made some sense

a low risk move for them that could address the need for a 2nd line C

I suggested Connolly for Montador (overpaid right handed dman) and Bickell under paid effective 4th liner but would be thrilled with any of those prospects mentioned

This is my obligatory trade for Pavelski proposal.

I really think that he is the guy that the Leafs should go after either around the trade deadline (not very likely) or in the off-season (better scenario).

Pavelski is the #1 centreman that you want and isn't at the high pricetag that you would have to pay for a guy like Backstrom or whomever else around the league that would be available.

So here's the trade:

To Toronto:
F Joe Pavelski

To San Jose:
F Mikhail Grabovski
D Mike Kostka
F Joe Colborne
2013 (3rd/4th) Pick from Edmonton

* So here's my reasoning with this trade. At 1 year older than Pavelski, Grabo has yet to substantially make his mark on this team after the 1 year of success. It really seems to be a common theme with this team, but that's a discussion for another time. For another 4 years after this year, he's going to be making more than JVR and Lupul. Joe Colborne needed to make the jump this past year because its going to become people passing him on the depth chart and moving to the NHL, while he fades away in the AHL. He has been good at the AHL level this year, but I still think he's a bit too late.

I do this trade in the off-season when San Jose fails to do anything in the playoffs again and they are more likely to change.

Chicago has some good prospects and are in a "win now" mode. They could have interest in Grabovski. I could see a potential deal that works for both sides.
