Iginla value

Per Hockey Rumors & Trades on Facebook -

"Hearing that the price for Jarome Iginla has been set at a top 4 D prospect, roster player, and draft pick. The Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins remain the front runners for interest in Iginla while the LA Kings are believed to be offering Jonathan Bernier+."

I know it's not verified with a link but it all adds up. For what the Flames "seem" to be asking, I would be pretty happy with the trade just as long as he doesn't end up in Philly

Sounds good to me, and about what I'd expect. Please no Bernier though. He is a great prospect but I have no clue where this notion comes from that we need more goalies. We are very deep on goalies. We have zero D depth, so that part is very sound. Our C depth is kind of there, we need to find a way to add a sprinkle of elite C talent however. Draft or trade for prospect.

I believe it's ran by a couple of hockey fans with no connections but they get all there news off of verified sports blogs and NHL reporters Bob McKenzie, James Duthie etc. I'd say they are right 95% of the time. This could be the 5% however.

Pretty broad range.

What does roster player mean? Pick?

Top 4 D prospect, top 9 roster player (3rd liner), and 1st 2013.

Pitts: Despres + 2013 1st. No roster player (unless pens want to unload someone).
Bos: Mcquaid + 2013 1st. Average prospect?

Pens fan here. Rossi is an idiot. Likely ripped that off our board.

He also recently said Iggy wouldn't be a top 6 winger on our team. So yes, he's an idiot.

mpp9 is on Rossi patrol

like the man says, Rossi is an unrepentant hack, a talent-less fool devoid of credibility. as the saying goes: Never Go Full Rossi.

Rossi is young and immature for a beat writer so he gets a bit carried away, that being said he is connected in the Pens locker room and players trust him.

What in that tweet is inaccurate?

Does Calgary not need a top 4 D prospect? a roster player? a draft pick?
Is that not almost exactly what everyone has been saying here, in the papers, on TV and radio? Because that's what I've been reading and hearing for almost a year now.

Regardless of the source the combination of player, prospect and pick makes sense. As someone has already said, it leaves lots of room for discussing quality but the components are there. I don't think that it's out of the question to expect a decent player, midrange prospect and 1st for renting Iginla for the playoffs. Throw in some conditional picks in case he signs an extension and presto - you have a deal the Flames need in order to move into the rebuild.

If Feaster is asking for less then three components then fans should be worried.

I think Flames should eat 100% of Iginla's cap hit in the trade, so we can maximize return. Plus it would create space for his future team to add another player so he can win the cup.

Edit: Obviously I'm not an owner so its not my money... ha.

If I'm not mistaken, a team can only eat 50% of a players cap hit...

My question is: Do Calgary fans believe that any Iginla trade must acquire the foundation for the team going forward? Is that the asking price?

Because I don't think other GM's see it that way, or at least are willing to pay that high price.
From what I'm reading, there is a big disconnect between what Calgary fans feel they need to receive in return for an Iginla trade (IMO on paper is a fair compensation) and what other GM's are willing to part with.

I completely respect the concept that any trade of Iginla must set the franchise up for success, I really do....but I just don't think other GM's are willing to depart with those future building blocks for a rental.
I just have a bad feeling that the return will, in the end, be disappointing for you guys.

We expect a 1st pick + a prospect, given past deadline acquisitions I don't think that is far fetched.

We except pieces which will greatly aide our "rebuild". The main pieces of said rebuild will most likely need to be drafted by us.

If a proposal doesn't address above need, we simply wont be interested.

Kevin Allen had this to say about Iginla
Quote:
After years of faithful service to Calgary, Iginla deserves the Ray Bourque treatment. Send him to a city where he could win a Stanley Cup, such as Pittsburgh or Boston or Los Angeles. The Flames would benefit because they undoubtedly would receive at least a first-round pick and a prospect. It's a touchy situation because Iginla wants to be viewed as a loyal Flame, but he has to know that this wouldn't change how fans feel about him. Boston fans still love Bourque. Iginla will waive his no-trade clause for the right team.

Personally I think Boston would, Boston goal tending> Pitts, Boston defense > Pitts. With Iginla Boston's offense would be worse than Pitts but they would still be averaging over 3 goals a game. Not to mention they would be just a nasty physically dominating team to play against.

Honestly, I don't care if the Flames are in 3rd-8th place in the conference come the deadline, the bottom line is they aren't a stanley cup contender and with Iginla not signed yet, move him and get pieces before you lose him after the season. If this team is gelling at the deadline and have moved into a playoff spot then dont be sellers, but not being a seller doesn't mean you don't give Iginla a shot on a real Stanley Cup contending team. There is no good outcome to not trading Iginla this deadline regardless of the scenario IMO. Just move him, and then in the off-season, if they'd like, re-sign him, at a comfortable cap hit, and let him close out his career here.

Apparently Feaster also likes to talk in the 3rd person.

Welcome to the board Jay. Lets talk about "intellectual honesty".
