I don't really have a hunch on what he's going to announce. We still have to pay his salary over the next two seasons even if it doesn't go directly to him. The reason for some wanting him to retire would be to give a spot to someone who could help the team on the ice more.

It might depend on how serious this latest injury is. If he's done for the season and this will affect his play if he comes back next season, then it may be his best bet to hang up the skates.

As some have said on Twitter, if he retires, he certainly deserves some kind of position in hockey. He's shown dedication enough to this team, league, and sport that it's what he excels at

This was my gut feeling. An announcement to say that he's going on the Michael Jackson's "This is It" Tour.

No reason to abruptly retire in the middle of the season when your team is shorthanded enough as it is. He's captain. He can collect money and finish the season, but pave a path for a new captain. Win win all around.

Panthers aren't paying it, just counts against the cap.

Friggin Harvey, always starting ****.

Although I agree with giving it to Weiss, I don't think anything would be different because of that. I think he was playing hurt all season.

Now the fact we'd have had a different defenseman in Jovo's place, like Ellerby perhaps...that's a different story.

So do we get to see Petrovic this season now? Strachan or Robak can have a scratch game while Petrovic has a shot, why not right? I know his numbers haven't been impressive lately but I'd like to see if he's NHL ready. Dineen was speaking highly of him early in the training camp.

Another case proving we have the worst beat-writers in the league, or close to it. The coverage is embarrassing, especially compared to the days of Russo.

Nothing wrong with GR, but Harvey is nothing but amateur.

Big announcement .. LOL

Panthers act like Jovanovski is Crosby or something. Who cares if he's out or not. We fans are happier when he's out.

GR is lazy too. he has no inside sources...everything he reports is nothing different than anything we can find on panthers.nhl.com

i actually admire Harvey for trying to dig a bit...he just needs to be more careful on what he reports as fact and rumor.

To be fair, the Panthers organization never said anything about a "big announcement". This was all started by Harvey speculating that there might be a "big announcement", not that there ever was going to be one.

Or he wants to get paid for the remainder of the season and then retire.
