I think because of his age, he can only get a entry level contract. Money will all be the same. I think his decision will come down to who will play him in the NHL faster. I think the Flyers should give him a game or two this year if need be. He can't be any worst than Gervais as the 6th defenseman.

If this is true might as well try to sign him and have him start practicing with the team over this 5 day break and maybe have him play on Sunday if he looks ready

Timonen-schenn
Coburn-meszaros

Is he the kid who has like high-school caliber skating?

(An exaggeration, but if I recall correctly, one of their C prospects had good size but really, really big question marks about his mobility.)

Yeah. I guess you should put the rookie that you want to help his development with coburn or meszaros then right?

Healthy, Mezsaros is actually a very good partner for Coburn. Aside from Timonen, he has the best offensive instincts among our defensemen (which isn't saying much, ). On the other hand, Mez hasn't exactly thrived when playing against the tougher competition that comes with a top-4 role, so that line-up might not work.

Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-Grossmann
Mezsaros-Sustr

(Assuming that they can get over the whole Czech / Slovak thing).

The concern there is 1) still no puck-movement on the 2nd pairing, and 2) Mezsaros, who's struggled himself, has to mentor a rookie.

Dunno. Nice problem to have, though.

If we signed Sustr, how about maybe an idea of sending Briere+ to Ottawa for Bishop + Noesen? What would the + be with Briere?

I am not so sure you would have to add a plus to Briere. Bishop doesn't hold that much value. He is a UFA after next year and backup goalies in general don't get a whole lot in trade. Briere, even after this terrible year, does have value. His cap hit is high but the real money owed is low. Ottawa isn't a cap team so his hit would be terrible for them.

Do you mean his cap hit wouldn't be terrible?

Ottawa makes sense in some ways.

Bishop was traded for a 2nd last year, and I think its fair to say his value has increased since then. Noesen was a 1st rounder a few years ago, and I'm not sure his value is that much lower than that.

If we could get that for Briere, fantastic, but I'm skeptical. Maybe Bishop + a pick or Bishop + Wiercioch

Briere is probably worth and 2nd and a prospect. Bishop is the 2nd and Noesen is the prospect. I don't see how Bishop's value has gone up. He is still a backup goaltender, which usually are worth a 2nd max. Noesen looks like he plateaued a bit, numbers wise. He is only at a point per game in the OHL as an overager which isn't that great. I haven't really seem him play so can't confirm one way or the other. But on the open market, I think Briere can get a 2nd rd pick and 2nd level (i.e. not elite) prospect. All that you would need to two teams interested, which there is, and Briere willing to go to either one.

Not really sure. He was pretty raw coming out of his draft year.

He's probably more known for his athleticism. Coming out of high school he had D1 offers for both hockey and football.

I just think Noesen would be a great 2nd/3rd line guy for us. From what I'm reading, he's a really feisty guy, loves to hit and does have a nose for the net.

By next season (this includes if we pick up Sustr):

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Schenn-Simmonds
Gagne-Couturier-Noesen/McGinn
Talbot-Laughton-Rinaldo

Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-Grossmann
Mez-Sustr

Bryz
Bishop

We can keep our fingers crossed. Then continue to tank and get Jones too!!
Our D would be then set for years...lol

I wish they would put Kimmo and Coburn back together to get Coburn's confidence up. Then run with Schenn and Grossman as a PURE shutdown.

I'm all for reunited Timonen and Coburn, but I'm concerned that it would hinder Schenn's development (he performed best in TOR with Kaberle, and struggled when paired with either younger guys or less mobile / offensive guys).

I also think Schenn and Grossmann would pose some significant challenges--little mobility or puck-movement.

How low does a team have to finish to be in the lottery? Bottom 6?

Technically they just have to miss the playoffs.

Every team who doesn't make the playoffs is in the lottery.

In previous years, you could only move up four positions, which meant you had to finish bottom-five to have a chance at #1. (The Devils won the year that they jumped up to 4 to take Larsson).

This year, every team is eligible to jump to #1, though they didn't recalibrate the odds. I think the 14th team has a .5 percent chance or something like that.

Sustr spent time in both Pittsburgh and Tampa's camps, I think.

But that's no guarantee he signs in either place. I believe Matt Read went to the Rangers before signing here, right?
