Ha! Grossmann is AHL fodder. Trade him for Paul Bissonette we need more tougher guys on our squad here because Flyers hokey

Honestly, for those that have Howard on the list, do you believe that Detroit will let him go for Mrazek to go full time?
No, Detroit will pick up Bryz after we buy him out, and ride him to Lord Stanley's Grail.

Posts like that just prove how underrated Grossmann is.

I would not trade Nick Grossmann right now unless it was for a better defenseman.

Same here. I think Grossmann is one of the best shutdown guy in the league.

On the defensive side of the ice, I don't know who that is. He's been far better than I think anyone thought we were getting at the time.

Sure, he's going to get beat in the open...but he's smart and doesn't play out of position so that really ever happens.

5.5 is not too bad for a top 4 defenseman. I think Myers still has a ton of potential to turn into a great defensemen down the road. IMO Buffalo screwed with his development by making him their #1 too soon and not pairing him with a defensively sound veteran partner. If you got him, maybe for Coburn plus something small, and then signed Ron Hainsey to be his partner, they would make a good 2nd pair while he develops more consistency. I doubt Buffalo trades him though after paying 12 million to him this year without a massive overpayment.

If a team trades for Myers they are taking on a very expensive project. He has skills but he doesn't understand how to play the game in the NHL. He leads rushes deep into the offensive zone and then gets caught out of position several times a night. This isn't pond hockey.

No doubt. Lindy Ruff wasn't exactly a stickler for defensively sound hockey. Neither is Laviolette for that matter. If you are getting a coach that knows defense, then I think he would be worth the risk if the trade package was reasonable. The Flyers have had some success rehabilitating struggling defensemen like Matt Carle and Luke Schenn. If you get Myers and Schenn, the Flyers would have their right handed top 4 defensemen, which are hard to find, locked up for next decade.

On the open market, no, but for a guy that may be a project I don't know. It would be a risk as you could wind up with another Mez for $5.5m. Not the worst thing ever, but I think we could agree we wouldn't like to be paying him that much even without the health problems he's had. We got Mez for a 2nd round pick coming off a bad year, after he had a couple of good years in the league. If it would take an over payment to get Myers I wouldn't try for it.

Assuming we buy out Bryz and Briere (or trade), what are our free agent options for the summer? What goalies will be available?

If Miller and Myers are on the trading block, what kind of assets would it take? Laughton, Reed, Meszaros for Miller and Myers?

Miller is a head case prima donna, and Myers has to many ifs. Sabres can keep em. Time to get a goalie that isn't a head ache or has any question marks

Many of you will have a problem with this post but I feel this team is need of a major overhaul and this is how I feel the rest of the season should be played out in this order:

Give either Schenn or Couts more ice time and some with Giroux and Voracek
Remove gervais+ foster from team/demote and call up manning and gustafsson
Convince briere to waive no trade clause and get a mid level pick or prospect
Move one of Coburn or Meszaros (get a younger Dman back or perhaps picks, my pick rundblad)

Offseason

Draft a young defencemen (I'm guessing if moves are made flyers would finish in bottom 5, hopefully Seth Jones)
Sign 6'8 Andrej Sustr
Resign Voracek, Rinaldo, Harry Z, Wellwood, manning, gustafsson, Lauridsen
Only resign gags if he takes a paycut to about 2.8million
Make offer to Corey Perry and backup plan semin
Take a look at Ryan Whitney
Contemplate move of read/B schenn/couturier but not a fan of any moves involving them
Look to make a move for Bobby Ryan
If all goes to plan this is how I would see lineup

Voracek-Giroux-Semin
Hartnell-Schenn-Simmonds
Gagne-Couturier-read
Rinaldo-Talbot-Mcginn

Schenn-Timonen
Coburn-Rundblad
Grossmann-Whitney

Bryz
?

Comments or suggestions?

EDIT: Perry signs 8 yr deal with ducks

I can't help but be intrigued by Myers. I think in the right situation...

Anyway, it's time to pull a 2007 Trade Deadline. Blow it up.

Meszaros- gone
Coburn- gone
Briere- gone
If anyone wants Knuble, Gagne, Timonen, say goodbye.

Tank HARD and go for Seth Jones.

Get at least another 1st round pick and 2nd round pick. This draft is stacked. Best draft since 2003, take advantage of it.

Fire Homer. Fire Lavy.

Homer isn't the problem, I think a coaching move might be needed, maybe make berube HC

I think another disappointing aspect on this team is really don't have much young talent to look forward to (in the AHL) that could possibly be NHL ready. Nick cousins, Scott Laughton, and Tye Mcginn are the only ones that come to mind, but this team has no organization depth at defense AT ALL.. I see some of the players the Lightning brought up (IE: Johnson) and they seems to be making impacts already. Just frustrating I guess.

There's no quick fix to the team. The Flyers can't drastically improve by trading for a star player, because they'll be digging bigger holes in another area. What they need now is to increase their total asset worth, and you do that with improved pro scouting, improved amateur scouting, and a significant stretch of intelligent, effective, rational and patient transactions.

i know how you feel... this is the result of 5 straight years of trading picks.

Realistically, we are always only going to care about the top club.

The next 2 weeks will be telling....if we get some old vet i wont be happy. We should be major sellers IMO
Its kinda odd though...as bad as the kubina deal was, the grossmann deal turned out to be great.

Here's my revamped rebuilding plan.

Trade Briere to Boston for a 1st.
Trade Meszaros to Sj for a 2nd
Trade Couturier to Phoenix for Rundblad and a 1st
Trade Coburn to the blues for Rattie and a 1st.

Rest of the season

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Simmonds - Schenn - Read
Gagne - Noebels - McGinn
Rinaldo - Talbot - Fedotenko

Timonen - Schenn
Rundblad - Grossmann
Manning - Gervais

Bryzgalov
Moron

draft: (hypothetical place holders for where the picks would end up)
Trade Scott Hartnell, STL 1st (23) BOS 1st (28) for Bobby Ryan
1st (1 PHL) - Seth Jones
1st (17 PHX) - Anthony Mantha

Offseason:
Buyout Bryzgalov
Sign Jimmy Howard
Sign a solid backup (???)
Sign Douglas Murray

Next season:

Ryan - Giroux - Voracek
Simmonds - Schenn - McGinn
Read - Laughton - Rattie
Rinaldo - Talbot - ????

Timonen - Schenn
Grossmann - Rundblad
Murray - Jones

Howard
????

2014-2015

Ryan - Giroux - Voracek
Simmonds - Schenn - Mantha
Read - Laughton - Rattie
???? - ???? - ????

Jones - Schenn
Grossmann - Rundblad
Murray - Gostisbehere/????

Howard
????/Stolarz?

So basically we don't make the playoffs until 2015?

Let me get this straight:

9 months ago Homer wouldn't trade Couturier in a package for Shea Weber... and now he'll do it for a prospect and a pick?

Besides, we could get David Rundblad for much less than Sean Couturier. He seems to have fallen out of favor in Phoenix. I know some of the more reputable Coyote's posters are interested in a deal around Briere/Rundblad.

If we were to package Couturier for a Phoenix defenseman, his name better rhyme with Keith Yandle.
